HISTORY OF MYRTLE BEACH, VIRGIN ISLANDS, AND ALASKA
SEASON 2
RECORD - 17-63; Home 11-29 Road 6-34; Team Rank #26
TOP SCORER - Fred Bell 14.7; 46.3%
TOP REBOUNDER - Dennis Thomas 6.8
TOP PASSER - Damon Trout 7.7apg; 2.8topg
Rookie Selection: Damon Trout @ #39
Analysis: When you trade all your picks away for players such as Fred Bell, Joel Pearson, and etc. this is what happens. Not the worst team that season, but near to it… A habit started and is has not been broken. This team gave up a league worst 108.2 points per game and only average 92.7, almost a 16 point difference… Team MVP - Fred Bell, only for his offensive production.
SEASON 3
RECORD - 8-72; Home 5-25 Road 3-37; Team Rank #27
TOP SCORER - Roy Robinson & Lou Boone 14.4, 39.2% & 43.9%
TOP REBOUNDER - Lou Boone 8.4
TOP PASSER - Bob Bennett 6.6apg; 2.5topg
Rookie Selection(s): none
Analysis: Well when you don't draft a player in the Rookie draft, you have nothing to build on. Trading Damon Trout was the second problem… After a fairly good season, he was kicked out of Myrtle Beach. This time the 2nd worst team in the league. Outscored on an average by 25 points. What else could you expect. Team MVP- Lou Boone, an undrafted rookie acquired from Washington in yet another questionable trade… He lead the team in scoring, blocks, and rebounds.
SEASON 4
RECORD - 17-63; Home 9-31 Road 8-37; Team Rank #26
TOP SCORER - Eddie Jacobson 19.4, 49.4%
TOP REBOUNDER - Eddie Jacobson 9.2
TOP PASSER - Damon Trout 7.7apg to 2.8topg
Rookie Selection(s): 0
Analysis: See above… This teams could have won more games, but they weren't coached… Buck McCarthy, Eddie Jacobson, and Damon Trout were a nice one two three punch, but they just didn't gel as good as they should have. Even the team moving to Virgin Islands couldn't change the losing ways of this doomed franchise. Team MVP: Eddie Jacobson. He rebounded, and scored! Where is he now… I think a career backup. That should tell it all…
SEASON 5
RECORD - 36-44 Home 23-17 Away 13-27; Team Rank #3rd in Conference
TOP SCORER - George Holt 26.0, 39.8%
TOP REBOUNDER - George Holt 10.8
TOP PASSER - Stub Madison 9.2 to 1.7topg
Rookie Selection(s): Sid Sowders @ 44
Analysis: Damn, what a season… They started this season off at 10-1, but soon got knocked back down to reality… Hey Virgin, YOU STINK! Even with them stinking, they made a push for the playoffs until the final two weeks of the season. The acquishtion of Holt was a big positive. One -Two punch, HOLT and Madison… Again only one draft pick and a low 2nd at that… Team MVP - George Holt
SEASON 6
RECORD - 27-53 Home 19-21 Road 8-32; Team Rank #4 in Conference
TOP SCORER - Paul Wright 19.2, 47.9%
TOP REBOUNDER - George Holt 8.6
TOP PASSER - Storm Schmid 2.7 to 1.2
Rookie Selection: #16 Storm Schmid, #29 Andy Davis, #46 Skyler Peyton
Analysis: Point Guards, Point Guards, Point Guards… Storm Schmid was this franchises first ever draft pick in the first round and a fairly decent one, but he wasn't thinking about passing. This could have been a good team, but with out a point, they were doomed. Paul Wright came over in a trade and George Holt struggled with his FG%... and yet again. VI struggled! Team MVP - George Holt
SEASON 7
RECORD - 16 - 64 Home 13-27 Road 3-37, Team Rank #28
TOP SCORER - George Holt 22.4, 38.3%
TOP REBOUNDER - Kris Calhoun 11.0
TOP PASSER - Umberto DiTullio 9.0 to 2.3topg
Rookie Selection: Nick Adams @13
Analysis: What happened to Schmid… Season ending disease! VI got Jeff Bailey and tried to revamp his career but it didn't work. Holt was finally able to get some help on the boards with Kris Calhoun in VI and Holt was back to his scoring ways. Umberto DiTullio made his entrance and passed the ball well, but shot horrible. Team MVP: HOLT, 3 seasons with this team and he was the only bright spot…
SEASON 8
RECORD - 8-72, Home 8-32 Road 0-40, Team Rank #28
TOP SCORER - Harold Gil 18.6, 47.2%, end of season trade
TOP REBOUNDER - Marquez Houston
TOP PASSER - Umberto Ditullio 10.5 to 3.3topg
Rookie Selection: Kevin Boice @ 13, Grady Olsen @ 17, Marquez Houston @ 19, Cullen Phillips @ 21, Harry
Applegate @ 24, Harry Crowley, Dickie Cotter and Kunta Xia @ 51, 52 and 53
Analysis: Bad Season… Worst team in the league… Whoa what is going on.. VI with 6 draft picks… The beginning of the YOUTH MOVEMENT. VI finally starts to do something right… More games could have been won, but VI use a variety of different rotations to give all their young players a chance to shine. I kinda enjoyed this season personally… Team MVP: Co MVPs, Kelvin Boice and Marquez Houston
SEASON 9
RECORD - 32-48 Home 22-18 Road 10-30
TEAM SCORER - Scooter Jacobs 19.5 52.3%
TOP REBOUNDER - Marquez Houston 8.3
TOP PASSER - Ed Kane 6.5 to 1.1
Rookie Selection: 0
Analysis: Mix in dem Rookies with some veterans and you got a playoff race until the last week of the season. This had to be the most exciting season of the franchises history. To see old timers like Ed Kane and Scooter Jacobs lead this team… Youngins Marquez Houston, Kelvin Boice and Harry Applegate continue to contribute. This team gained a lot of respect. After giving Umberto an extension, he didn't produce, so VI benched him and let Ed Kane take his spot and the winning ways started. Something VI isn't really use to… Team MVP: Scooter Jacobs, he gave this team a boost and lets see if the can keep it..
SEASON 10 -
The new season is about to begin… Another move and another Rookie Sensation in Raphel Park. Alaska is currently in financial woes, but I do expect us to make the playoffs this seaons… Stay tune!
