Around the WBA
Albacete's Keith Douglas had a season ending injury today. He grabbed a rebound in today's loss to Gabon and landed on Marty Feldmans foot. While the team initially thought it was just a sprain but x-rays reveiled a bad break in the foot that will require surgery.

Around the WBA
Horace Colbert is one of the all-time great players, but this has been a very rough year on him. He was cut earlier this year by London and then was picked up by the hapless Montana nights. It seems that the pressure got to Colbert and he tried illegal methods of increasing his performance. As, a result today he was suspended for the rest of the season by the league for using performance inhancing drugs.
Today Gabon's Oryn Dasing spit on a fan. The odd thing is that it was a Gabon fan in Gabon. Dasing claims it was inadvertant, claiming he was just trying to spit off the court. The fan however claims that it was dirrected towards his face. As a result Dasing has been suspended for one game.

BIG WEEKEND FOR DINOS ROOKIE SUPERSTAR
Dino Beat Reporter
Greg Ross
It still is amazing that some people still doubt Walt Jackson but after this weekend the doubt seems to be without a leg to stand on. Walt Jackson went to All Star Weekend to play in the rookie game and was going to give it a go in the 3 point shootout. However despite great performances in each event the late edition of the Slam Dunk Competition will be what we remember when we look back years from now. Walt is regaurded as a great all around talent but the amazing show he put on in the slam dunk contest was something to see. It did not have the fairy tale ending as Jackson seemed to have nothing left to give in the final round but he was truly the star of the show. He also managed to advance to 2nd round in the shoot out and had what some felt was an mvp performance in the rookie game. He had 14 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Many felt that given an injury he suffered just prior to all star weekend that Jackson may lay back at all star weekend. That wasn't the case as he looked like a man on a mission with the whole WBA world watching.
From the moment Owner James Borbath announced him as the first pick for his recently acquired basketball franchise there has been huge amounts of attention. EA Sports put him on the cover of WBA 2005 and that angered many around the league. Jackson was even questioned for being the number one pick. However despite all of it Walt Jackson has had an amazing first half of a season in the WBA. This weekend was perhaps his way of fighting back at all his doubters. When he got back with his team I had a chance to sit down and go one on one with Jackson about his life in the WBA to date.
Ross: What an amazing weekend you just had. How do you feel after all of the all star activities our done?
Jackson: I feel great. I was worried with my injury I might not be able to play at all. Which I was upset about especially after the fact that Ajani was traded and we both were looking forward to seeing each other and putting on a show for the fans.
Ross: Speaking of shows you put on one heck of a show in the dunk contest.
Jackson: Yeah I mean it was a last minute type deal so I think that helped me out no time to get nervous or anything just go out there and go. I mean I love watching dunk contests back in 2000 Vince Carter made dunk contest mean something again. Hopefully my performance has done the same for the WBA. I say it right now if I'm healthy I'm in it next year and I'll hold back on the 50 til it counts.
Ross: Yes how did it feel when you scored a perfect score on your dunk?
Jackson: It's great cause you have legends out there judging the thing and to have the respect of people like that means a lot to me. I think thats why C-DASH has got along with me from day one cause I respect the heck out of that guy. He like all those judges is a legend of this league. I hope to help get him a championship ring before he calls it a career. I know there has been talk he might get moved but I'm pushing hard to try to stop it from happening. I think we need him to go places.
Ross: Were you upset that Gorman was named the rookie game MVP?
Jackson: Well in a way yeah. But what you gonna do the guy hogs the ball in an all star game I mean thats not the point. I mean maybe it's just cause he don't get to play as much as me and he's out to prove something or maybe playing on Montana he's just not use to have talent around him. I don't know and honestly I don't care. I worry about my team mates and want to be a complete player. I have never thought much of Gorman. Sheldon to me has a big head and thinks he's better than he is. I know this is kind of stuff your not suppose to say but I don't care facts or facts ask any coach other than espo and they'll say gimmie a guy like Walt that wants to make his team better.
Ross: Speaking of your team they have played well even in your absense as of late!!!
Jackson: Yeah in the games I was out made me proud to see the guys step up and get some wins. Also it made me hungry to get back in there and go to battle with them again. I am going work hard the rest of the year and this off season to built myself up and be like a tank out on the floor. I don't want to let my team down by missing games. I mean great that they can do it without me but it's a lot easier for everyone if I'm in the mix with them.
Ross: All the talk will be about the rookie of the year award. You were the best college player how nice would it be to get another trophy?
Jackson: It would be great but the goal is always about the one they give to the best team. I only worry about that trophy because that one you earn and it isn't voted on. You just go out and work hard and get it. Any player who doesn't have that as the goal should give a shake to thier head.
Ross: Everyone comments on how mature you our on and off the floor
Jackson: I try to be that way I mean this is a business you got to go to work and at the same time realize you our lucky to be able to do something you love and make a lot of money and have a whole world of fans watch you. We owe those people our best effort every night. I say that cause although everyone out there watching may not have the skills we do in this league they would all bust thier butts if they we're in our shoes. A lot would probably fall over to cause we have some big shoe sizes aroung here.
Ross: What is your hope for the rest of this year and beyond?
Jackson: To just get better and if i do that everyday the rest of the things the wins, the awards, the dunk contests whatever will all take care of themseleves. If I just put in the work and work hard it will all be fine.
Ross: Well we appreciate the time you gave us today. You have any last thoughts?
Jackson: Yeah rest of league better watch out you better not sleep on the Dinos cause we coming hard at you in the second half baby.
It is clear that Walt Jackson has a plan and dedication to his team and his skills on the floor. In a world of ego driven sports you don't find many guys like Walt anymore. He is a throw back and I don't mean jersey. In personality he is like a player from a different era. However for all his humble nature of the court on it he plays with aggression and passion and an attiude that few can match. Walt's first trip to the all star weekend was memorible. However I see many more to come for this bright star.

Around the WBA
Colorado's Paul Spagnoli has been suspended by the league for violating the league's drug policy.
Pat McDaniel of Roswell was in a semi-serious car accident and is expecting to miss the next week of games.
Two time WBA Champion and league good guy got a major scar on his reputation today as he kicked a chair towards fans today in Sacramento's loss to California. Reports are mixed but many say that Kramer who has always been the consimate professional is frustrated with Hot Headed Harold Gil and his style of play. Further Gil seems to repeatedly disrespect one of the most respected defensive guards in the league. Kramer apparently lost it as Gil played all 48 point guard minutes. Kramer made no comment other than to say he behaved horribly and that he was embarased with himself. The league has suspended Kramer for only 5 games. Some say that the league is being too easy on him despite his decade of spotless contribution to the league.
Nebraska's Drake Baheman has been suspended for 3 games after a missed swing he took at rookie Pete Nelson for a hard foul he put on Bacheman. Nelson, said it was all a miss understanding and that his foul was not intentional at all.
A.J. Schulz will miss the next game due to some bad Sushi he ate after Washington's victory in Baltimore. This is a Huge loss for Washington who plays Cancun tomorrow and is already without shooting guard Emmett Yee.
Craig Bradshaw passed a kidney stone today and is expected to miss the rest of the week and part of next week to recover.

Slam Dunk Contest
Beginning this 10th season of the World Basketball Association, We are now including the
All-Star Slam Dunk Competition to the All-star weekend festivities.
The rules are as follows. Each of the 16 contestant gets 2 dunks per round. The dunks
will be voted on by a panel of 5 judges. The top 8 scores from the first round will
advance to the next round. The top 2 scores from the 2nd round will advance to the final.
In the even of any ties among the qualifiers, the contestants that tie will all advance.
Let's meet the Slam Dunk Contest Judges:
Judge #1 is Will Davidson. He was one of the original sports writers for GSPN news, and
is one of just 2 of the original GSPN writers that are still active with GSPN.
Judge #2 is Ron Chambers. The orignal writer for GSPN NEWS, he has stepped up into an
editorial position, but still writes occasional for the program.
Judge #3 is Michael Esposito. The only member of the panel that is still active within the
league as he is the Owner/General Manager for the Montana Knights.
Judge #4 is Curtis Bridges. He only played a couple of seasons in the WBA, but was voted
the league's first ever Most Valuable Player as the leader of his Sydney Machine Techs.
Judge #5 is Tom See. Another former WBA player. He was one of the first WBA players to display
an 'arial' arsenal. Fans loved to watch his dunks when he played for the Varese Roosters
in season one, but were shocked when he retired after that first season. Rumors are that
he retired because the WBA didn't have a Slam Dunk Competion back then.
Now.. let's get meet the contestants.... not every team has a player in the contest. Not every
player that we would want to see is here, as some players decline the invitation. For instance,
Nebraska's Wayne Taylor declined his invitation at first, but eventually decided to participate.
Walt Jackson, Roswell
Mike Taylor, Salt Lake City
Dave Williams, Rochester = (SPOILER: He had the worst single dunk score of the evening!)

Three Point Contest
Round 1
Bishop Stein 11112 00110 01112 11012 11110= 22
Joe Watts 00102 11102 10112 11000 01100= 17
Zacharia Salera 00100 11010 01010 00002 11112= 14
This was on track for one of the all-time worst 3-point efforts until Salera stuck the entire last rack.
Walt Jackson 01100 11110 01012 11112 11112= 22
Jackson showed rookie jitters but calmed down and hit the final 12 shots for 15 of his 22 points.
Paul Carroll 11102 00010 01100 11112 00002= 16
Chuck Henderson 11112 00112 00112 11110 11112= 24
Once again Chuck Henderson shows why he is one of the WBA's all-time greats.
Parker Mason 10112 10110 11102 01100 10112= 20
Tony DiMateo 11012 11110 01110 10112 11112= 23
DiMateo was the pre-competition favorite and shot like a favorite in the first round.
Oryn Dasing 11112 11112 11112 01112 11112= 29
WOW!!!!! I believe this is the best round ever shot.
Mike Ivey 10110 11002 11002 11002 01110= 18
Wayne Taylor 10102 10102 11102 11110 11112= 23
Jaxon McCall 00110 11112 11112 10112 01110= 22
Dave Williams 10112 11110 01110 01102 10010= 18
Rumor is that Williams was tired from his performance in the Slam Dunk contest.
Omar Jefferson 00010 10112 11000 11012 10112= 18
Everyone knows that Jefferson is a streak shooter and it is hard for a streak shooter to keep it up for 25 shots in a row.
The competition was really tough in this round it took 20 points to advance to the second round.
Round 2
Bishop Stein 11002 11002 11112 10112 01100= 21
Walt Jackson 01010 01112 11000 10110 10002= 15
The pressure seems to have gotten to the rookie.
Chuck Henderson 01000 11002 11102 11002 11012= 19
Parker Mason 11012 11012 10110 11110 01110= 20
Tony DiMateo 11112 11112 11112 11112 10102= 28
Tony is a pure shooter and it is hard to imagine a better stroke.
Oryn Dasing 10002 11012 11110 01112 11012= 22
You know a sooter is great if a 22 is a disappointing second round.
Wayne Taylor 01102 11112 10112 10112 01012= 24
Jaxon McCall 11012 01010 01112 11112 11102= 23
Round 3
Tony DiMateo 00112 10112 11102 11012 11112= 25
This was a great way to start the second round. It was only the third highest score of the night but only Dasing had shot a higher score in an earlier round.
Oryn Dasing 01002 01102 11112 01012 10112= 22
Dasing wasn't able to live upto the promise of his first round. Conventional wisdom would have DiMateo relaxing at this point but there are few who would feel confortable with Greats like Taylor and McCall still having their chances.
Wayne Taylor 01110 11112 00002 10110 11112= 20
Taylor slipped when running from the second rack to the third. He made a valiant effort to recover but his rhythm was obviously thrown off for most of the third rack.
Jaxon McCall 10112 00112 10112 11102 00012= 22
McCall went into the last rack needing to shoot perfectly to force a shoot out. It wasn't to be.
CHAMPION: Tony DiMateo
