The All-Ex Brooklyn Team
There is always a lot of talk about the amount of talent that Brooklyn looses each season. So, I decided to take a look and see how good of a team that would really make. The obvious exclusion from the following list will be AJ Schulz because he was traded away to try and improve the team not lost due to cap reasons. You will also notice that Justin Krueger will be included in the list since he will almost certainly be lost to free agency. So what would the team look like?
The Starting line-up would be Justin Krueger, Michael Kutak, Lonnie Gerson, John Davis and Al Zarra. Key bench players would include Woody Reynolds, J.J. McCauley, Ozzie Kramer, Brody Liang, Reynaldo Deangelo and Myron White. The obvious weakness in this line-up is the lack of depth in the power positions but Laing and Deangelo could both fill in these spots off the bench because they are good rebounders.

This could be a fun team to put on the floor. A couple of things really stand out. First is that the starting line-up would be a very efficient one offensively. They are not great passers but shoot a very good percentage and get to the free throw line. They also rebound quite well and would a great steals team. The bench would also be strong defensively. No doubt there would be weaknesses but this team should be better than borderline play-off teams like Omaha, SCL, Gabon and Baltimore. This team may even be on par with teams like Texas, Boston and London. It is hard to tell at that level because this would be a real TEAM with no superstars but serious quality at every position. Depending on how they all fit together this team would even have a chance at being a serious play-off team. But, that is all a guess because with this sort of line-up it is easy to see that they would be good but almost impossible to tell how good.

Franchise Rankings
1) Colorado 507-195 0.722
No doubt there will be those who say that Colorado's high standing is still riding on the legacy of legendary owner Marc Hameleers. It is true that Hameleers put Colorado in the number one position with three straight 70 win seasons and that Colorado has only once relinquished that spot after Season 7. But, what people need to realize is that Hameleers was still the GM after Season 7. BJ Stanley has done a great job with the team since then. The team took a slight dip this last season but it is hard to fault a 55 win season and most importantly the team is very young. Stanley will find though that as his stock as a GM rises so will the value of his players and the challenge will then be keeping his players. But, the future is bright in Colorado.
2) Brooklyn 505-197 0.719
Despite being two games behind Colorado is could be argued that Brooklyn is the most successful regular season team. Brooklyn has never missed the play-offs or had a loosing season. Every year they are among the top of the standings. Brooklyn, unfortunately, has been decimated by free agency more than any other team. It seems that every year they loose a key player. Justin Krueger who has been a long time starter for the Rage probably won't return for Season 10. But, the future still looks strong for the Rage. Joe Siebert, Tom Perkins and Shane Strom are all turning 29 this year and are the core of this team and arguably the best front court in the league. To balance out this experience Brooklyn has a very young but talented backcourt. Mario Bailey and Omar Jefferson are both future stars however Bernie Henderson will probably get the nod over Jefferson to start allowing Jefferson to backup both Henderson and Bailey. The best news for Brooklyn is that they have Jefferson, Bailey, Strom, Perkins and Siebert all tied into contract for several years.
3) Albacete 425-215 0.664
Albacete is the cream of the Season 2 expansion group. They have never missed the play-offs during their existence and have become one of the leagues true elite teams. Harry Jarvis is the heart of this team and Bobby Cress is its soul. But young talent such as Juwan Bixby and Tyler Kane balances this team out well. This team has no significant free agents so expect them to continue to be a top notch team.
4) Washington 456-246 0.650
The league will miss Sam Plummer. After the first two seasons which Washington struggled in they became a power house. While Boom-Boom Casey doesn't get the press he once did he is still the heart of this team. Around him Plummer put AJ Schulz and Emmett Yee to create a dynamic big three. Washington gets a lot of flack for playing such an ugly style of basketball but Plummer's goal isn't to look good it is to win. And they win in bunches. They also have Yee in a long term contract at a very reasonable rate which will give them a lot of cap room to keep this team on top.
5) Cancun 453-148 0.645
For those who have only been following the WBA for the last four seasons this ranking will be a bit of a surprise. Over the last four seasons Cancun has easily been the most dominating team. They have made it to the Finals all four years won it twice and it looks like they will win it a third time. Parker Mason, Lonnie Gerson, Scott Nicholson and Kent Mercer are all among the best at their positions. The one possible weakness for this team is that their stars are so major that they don't have money to spend on their bench. This leaves them vulnerable if they get a major injury. But, when Nicholson got injured a couple of years ago they found a way to survive so they should still do well. Their core will stay together for at least two more years so expect them to continue their dominance.
6) London 452-250 0.644
London had a few stellar years but recently they have been more solid than great. Chanda, Davidson and Colbert are great veteran players but they don't have much young talent to balance them out and in the competitive WBA neither of these three are good enough to put the franchise on their shoulders. Expect London to continue being good but if they are to get back to their past glory they need to make some moves.
7) Boston 447-255 0.637
This is another team that after some glory has become merely solid. In Season 6 Boston won 69 games and 45 in Season 9. 45 victories is still strong but not dominant. This off-season there will be a change in management which often means growing pains. There is actually a ton of talent on this team. The question is if it can ever gel. Magic Toby has always made GM's salivate and tremble in fear. The problem is that he is a shooting guard stuck in a center's body. John Greene is another issue. He is a huge talent but his injury problems are huge. He may be able to get past them but it will take a couple of years. Is Boston willing to wait that long on a player who is already in their late 20's?
8) Nebraska 430-272 0.613
Brandon Morfeld is certainly the most active GM in the league. No other front office has been involved in as many block buster deals. Currently, the Nebraska roster included possibly the two top offensive players in the league with Dave Williams and Wayne Taylor. But, teams have confirmed that there is a deal in place that will send away Dave Williams. Despite all the success that Nebraska has had they still have not won a Championship with current management. Nebraska is clearly an elite franchise with top notch management but it could be argued that Morfeld is too drawn to the big trades and that he hasn't allowed his teams enough time to develop to top notch teams through small moves and slight adjustments.
9) Cincinnati 402-300 0.573
This may be a surprise to some WBA observers. Over the last three years this franchise has really struggled but for the first five seasons they were among the best in the league just behind Colorado and Brooklyn. But, new management wanted to put their mark on the team and they have yet to rebuild the franchise. This team has some solid young talent and Craig Bradshaw may turn into a star but there is far too little talent on this team currently so expect their franchise ranking to continue to drop over the next couple of years.
10) Rochester 400-302 0.570
Once proud… now desperate. Okay it's not that bad but this is a franchise that after making the first seven play-offs has now missed two in a row. They traded away Dave Williams in a move that didn't pan out and this year Rondall Reynoso had a career ending injury. Rumor has it they are getting Williams back so they may be on the rise again but they are no longer the model of consistency they once were.
11) Texas 398-304 0.567
Jay Vasquez and Heiko Van Brandt are huge players but Texas doesn't have much beyond that. Right now they are good enough to be average but if they get a third major player and some role players they could rise quickly. But, that is a big if.
12) Oregon 352-288 0.550
Many people probably expected Oregon to be rated higher but they were mediocre for their first couple of seasons and the one year that they traded away Gonzales they only won 25 games. Currently, they have a ton of talent and a lot of it is young. Gonzo is the best player in the league and Oregon is putting some great talent around him with players like Stein so expect them to be a quality team for seasons to come. Assuming they don't get the crazy idea to trade Gonzo again.
13) Gabon 375-327 0.534
Gabon got a good run out of the Rookie All-Stars. But that time has past. In Season 9 they didn't even have a winning season and none of the four turned into the type of stars people expected. Bramson is great and Otto Hameleers is a great defender. But, this is a franchise that needs to make a move…or several. Let this be a lesson to other owners. You can't blow two seasons to get a great draft class and expect to ride that class to the top. The WBA is just too competitive for that.
14) Budapest 369-333 0.526
This is one of the most respected franchises in the league. While they look very average in these rankings you have to look at the slow steady improvement this franchise has made over the years. The Budapest ownership came into the WBA with very little basketball knowledge and it showed in their first few seasons but three of their last five seasons have had over 50 wins and they do it when people think they can't. Every year WBA insiders look at the Budapest roster and write it off as not having enough talent but many have now learned that Budapest takes a true team approach to the game and are able to win without the major stars. But, with that said they probably do need to find a star or two for their roster if they hope to get a championship.
15) Roswell 362-340 0.516
No team has fallen further. Roswell was once a proud WBA franchise but over the last few seasons they have become pitiful. Their win total from the last two seasons combined doesn't even reach the wins from one season in their hay day. The only good news for this team is that they have cap space and major contracts ending over the next two years.
16) New York 312-390 0.444
Often when ownership changes teams dip. That shouldn't be the case with New York. Four of their last five seasons have had less than 30 wins. The previous ownership had obviously lost interest in their investment and the franchise should benefit from the change of blood. The good news is that this off-season they will loose none of their key players and they have money to spend so if the new ownership is wise this team is actually in a good spot to build from.
17) Montana 307-395 0.437
Mediocre has always described this franchise. But, the future of this franchise is all about Jarius Miles. Many feel he will be a Wayne Taylor type talent. If Montana can develop him and build around him they have a chance to eventually become an elite team.
18) Miami 251-389 0.392
For a while this franchise looked like they were going to become a serious play-off team. But, it never happened. They have some good talent but their coaching has seemed to be lack luster recently. But, they also need to improve their talent if they hope to be more than average. But, proper coaching alone should get this team another 10-15 wins.
19) Andorra 369-333 0.385
The worst starting guards in the league have found a home in Andorra. The good news is that they have some of the best big men in the league and they have the number five pick in the draft which should get them a good guard. If they can then get another good guard as a free agent or as a second round find they may end up the most improved team in the league.
20) Sacramento 265-437 0.377
Sacramento expected more success this year. They started off strong but fell apart in the second half of the season. The problem is that while their key players are all under contract they don't have much money to improve with but they do have a lottery pick. The key for this team may be patience. They are fairly young and with proper development and drafting they could climb out of their hole. Some may argue after their strong start that coaching is really the problem. Only time will tell.
21) Baltimore 262-440 0.373
This is a team in the Budapest mold. They don't have much talent but had a decent year. They will need to get more talent if they hope to continue to improve and they will have to win for more than one season before they are given any respect in this league.
22) Salt Lake City 259-443 0.369
This is an improving franchise. A couple of years ago they were horrible and while they are not good yet they are showing signs. They have solid players at each position but they need to find some stars to help them rise about average.
23) Carolina 256-446 0.365
No team has ever had a harder year. Kevon Duke had a career ending injury. Simeon Hill was out for the year and they didn't get the top pick despite having the worst record. The good news is that they still have the #4 pick and enough money to grab any major free agent they want. Look for a much improved season in Season 10.
24) Birmingham 229-411 0.358
They were the darlings of Season 8 but fell off the map in Season 9. They just don't have enough talent yet but they do have two first round picks this year so they could be improved next year.
25) Omaha 248-454 0.353
This is another team that just doesn't have enough talent. They are several seasons away from being a serious play-off team.
25) California 248-454 0.353
The same story is true here. This is a team full of role players. Some of them are great role players but they don't have the start to support or enough quality help for them to employ a Budapest strategy and with no first round pick improvement seems a way off.
27) Capetown 218-422 0.341
This is no doubt the biggest surprise of the rankings. Over the last three years Capetown has become a serious play-off team. They have a nice mixture of great young talent and very good veteran talent. They will certainly be climbing up the standings over the next few years but they had been so horrible previously that the hole was just too big. In season six while in Bermuda they won only 8 games. In Season 9 they won 49. This should give hope to many other teams in the league.
28) Virgin Islands 161-479 0.252
It is hard for many people not to laugh when they hear the name Virgin Islands in relation to the WBA. There is no other team that has been so horrible for so long. They are easily the worst franchise in the leagues history. They have never had a winning record and have had win totals less the 20 multiple times. But, it looks as though things may be changing for VI. This team actually has some decent talent, much of it young. They also have the #3 pick in the draft. If they have a good off-season they could actually post their first winning season in Season 10.

Transcript of the Jerry Bollinger Show
Jerry: Good afternoon to everyone out there in the wild. My name is Jerry Bollinger and this is my show. We don't have any interviews for this first segment so we will have a lot of time for phone calls. But first things first; we are broadcasting today from Cimmaron New Mexico. I have to admit I was quite surprised to see Cimmaron listed on the tour stop even to the point that I questioned our booking agent about the WBA fan base there in Cimmaron. Our booking agent assured me, and I might add that he was right, that there is a huge WBA following here in Cimmaron. So lets here it “Kudos for Cimmaron”. With that lets take our first call from Dan in Trinidad, CO. Howl at me Dan.
Dan: First off Jerry, thanks for letting me howl in the wild.
Jerry: No problem. What's up
Dan: In the last issue of GSPN Magazine the #14 pick for most overpaid WBA player was Miamis John Davis. Do you agree with that or is the writer of that article thinking of a different John Davis than I am? I'll just hang up and listen to your answer.
Jerry: Dan I agree with you. This writer must be thinking of a different John Davis. Let's just look at some stats on Davis. Last year he was the #3 top rebounder in the league only to follow Paul Wilson and Corey Mosley. He averaged a double double in rebounding and scoring for last year. This year he isn't doing as well but it's clear that there is some confusion in Miami. The team is just not clicking as well as they were last year. Johns stats are down slightly. I expect however that he will pull out of the lull that he has been in so far. Regardless he is at 51% shooting this season and still pulls down 8.5 boards a game. How someone can come and say that he is not worth 8.25 mill a year is beyond me. Rumors also have it that Miami plans on extending his contract. And I for one don't blame them. Is Davis a 10 mill a year guy? I don't think so. He would have to get his points up per game for that. We should point out that Davis is not a big defensive powerhouse but at the same time his defensive awareness is one of the highest in the league. He is the kind of guy that knows where to be on the floor defensively just to avert the ball from coming to his man. There isn't a stat for that so you don't see it in the box score. But you have to look at how the games have gone for the man that Davis is guarding. For example in their first meeting of Capetown coach Bangerter played Davis out of position and had him guard Mabruke. He basically took Mabruke out of that game. Miami still lost because of a point guard mismatch but looking at the box score all you see is that Mabruke didn't get many touches on the ball and that can all be attributed to the defense awareness of Davis.
Next call we have Raymond in Elizabethtown, IN. Howl at me baby.
Raymond: Thanks for letting me run in the wild. Do you think the WBA will ever correct the divisions based on geographic location and take Miami out of the Western conference and move them to the Mid-Atlantic division?
Jerry: First off; Yes it would be nice to see Miami in the weaker eastern conference. Normally it would all but assure them a playoff spot every year (Except this year of course where they cant seem to get it together). But there is misunderstanding about where Miami's team is. You see back when they were New Orleans they were in the Western conference and when they moved to Miami, most people assumed it was Miami, Florida. But I must tell you all that that is wrong. In fact the first person who can tell me what state the Xtreme are based in gets an old Mike Begley, in a Miami uniform, bobble head doll.
Go ahead Mike from Seattle.
Mike: Is the answer: “Miami, Ohio?”
Jerry: No. Sorry Mike. No Begley bobble head today.
Mike: Speaking of Mike Begley isn't he about 52 years old now and shouldn't he retire?
Jerry: Well 52 is a good guess and he probably wont retire until he is that old but as of right now he is a ripe old age of 35. As to when he should retire, if someone keeps giving him money then I'm sure he will keep playing. Wouldn't you?
Mike: I don't know if I would keep playing or not. It's kind of embarrassing at this point. He is clearly washed out. He rides the bench and when he comes into the game its almost as if its just for some charity minutes.
Jerry: Yea I hear you but at the same time he make his minimum WBA salary which is a lot more than you and I make. And to be honest with you I would be willing to look like a fool for even that money.
Next call. George from So Cal. Howl at me George.
George: Is it Miami, Colorado?
Jerry: No you moron there is no Miami in Colorado. Come on people do at least a little research before you call. See ya George you are lost in the dark <click> I can't take a call from a moron who doesn't do any research. He was probably going to ask something like: “Is Wayne Taylor going to be mvp this year again?” Yes Taylor probably will be mvp but I think it should go to either Emmett Yee of Washington or Taylors teammate Dave Williams. This comes back to the age old question of: Should the mvp be given to the best player in the league or to the highest impact player? When I cast my vote, and I do have one I might add, it will go to Yee.
Collin from New Mexico I hope your howl is coyote worthy.
Collin: the Xtreme home court is in Miami, New Mexico.
Jerry: That is absolutely correct. Collin you get a Begley bobble head. The Xtreme move from New Orleans, Louisiana to Miami, New Mexico. Make sure that you stay on the line after the call to give Biff your address information. Do you have anything to howl about?
Collin: I just wanted to ask what you think Miami needs to do in the off season to improve their team.
Jerry: Thanks for the question Collin. The Xtreme have some very talented players and I think they just need to learn how to work together. As for the off season there are a few things that they can do. This is the final year of Marty Williams contract and I doubt very much that he will get re-signed. Miami will try to get him back in free agency but I suspect there will be a team out there that will be in great need of a great rebounding center and I expect Williams will get a decent contract else where. I think Tony Gaston might earn himself a multi year deal with Miami. He turned out to be a great backup to Rainwater. As the trade deadline was approaching I thought for sure that they would move Alvin Simpson but now we are here at the end of the season and Simpson has really turned his game around. Simpson may even live out his contract with Miami. Simpsons backup is a great passing point guard but he is not as good on the defensive side. As for free agency: Miami will have about 8 million to spend on a good free agent but who that would be I can't say. Personally I hope that they get 3 or 4 decent backup players for about 2 or 3 mill a piece. That would help this team a lot.
Well all you wild animals my time is coming to a close. Our next tour stop hasn't been scheduled yet but stay tuned to the show. Until next time oowwweeeooooooooo!!!

Virgin Islands Off-season News…
What a season! Virgin Islands missed the playoffs again but it was suspenseful til the last week of action… VI came into the season only expect 8 wins but then acquire Ed Kane and move Umberto to back up and the just got better and better… Scooter Jacobs, Ed Kane and Al Zarra along with 2nd year players, Harry Applegate, Kevin Boice and Marquez Houston propelled VI to a 32 - 48 record, only 4 games off of their best finish since the existence (36-44)! Just think… that 36 - 44 record would have got them into the playoffs this season… LOL... Season 9 was memorable for Scooter Jacobs; he had a big season almost averaging 20 points a game. VI is looking to possible resign the crafty veteran. VI is also the owner of the number 3rd and 10th picks in the upcoming draft and even thought they are not one of the most attractive teams to the newcomers, we think that VI is really interested in Al Herbert, Samson Erickson, and Raphael Park! Management has refused any comments. Raphael Park was stated saying it would be an honor to pick 3rd in the draft and prove his WBA Worth!
Virgin Islands are in negotiation with Montana, Rochester, and Nebraska… A deal has been made… And the details are… Well we are not at liberty to disclose that info, but just know VI is better!
VI is also on the move again… Yes they are… moving after 5 seasons in the Islands… The move is a bit to the extreme. Atlanta was in strong talks for the relocations, but the deal fell thru. Seems as if another person had something on their mind. The move should be a good one for the publicity of the WBA and GBCA... The players and management don't seem to mind the move and the weather is completely different. This isn't official yet, as seems, we are waiting on the commissioner of the WBA to give us the final permission. But if granted authority to move yet again and for the last time… The move will be to Alaska and the mascot will be SnowBears!
Well this concludes this report! VI Season 10 Champs!

Texas End of Season Report.
By Clark Lane
After a very bad end of season, the management of the Texas Juggers has decided to call this a season and get ready for the next one.
There are several reasons why the season has been a bad one. One of them is that we didn’t have a big presence on the Small Forward spot. With the acquisition of Heiko Van Brandt we have found the player we wanted to have, and we are going to try to put him where he deserves to be, at the MVP ballot. Another one is the lack of backcourt production. We have had the worse backcourt since I took the team around six seasons ago. We need to turn that around and put a stop at it. We need some quality in there, and hopefully, cheaply.
There are several objectives for next season. The first one is the fifty wins barrier. We need to get over it and forget about it. Once this is done, we are going to try to get into the Conference finals, thing that we have never done neither. We have been as far as the seventh game of the semifinals, but never to the next level. As a third target we are going to try to take the division from Cancun, this is going to be hard, and we don’t expect it to work easily, but if we want to have a chance to win everything we need to beat them. So far they are the best team ever in the WBA.
You may be thinking about how can we do that. It is easy. We are going to try to get a top SG. At FA, or by trading, or by getting a good FA and then trading him, but this team needs a SG. We need a high octane scoring SG, and if it is possible not with a huge contract. Once this is done, we will think about reinforcement of the point.
We don’t expect to get any improvements on the frontcourt.
We hope to put a high scoring, hard-nosed team on the court next season. We think that we are really only one inch away from it, and once everything fells into place we will take our real place in this league.
This being said, Heiko Van Brandt, Jay Vasquez and Al Lee are out of bounds. The rest of the team can be traded. Some of them cheaply, some of them easily if I get just a little bit of something.
Good luck to all the other owners and enjoy the holidays!!

Draft Preview
By Brandon Morfeld
1) Roswell-- PF Walt Jackson-- Jackson is probably the best player in this draft and Roswell could really use a forward after dealing away John Greene. This would give them Phillips, Durden, Freeman, Jackson, and Boone as a starting 5. Jackson also comes with the flexibility to play SF if needed. Jackson should adjust well to the league and be an immediate force for Roswell.
2) Rochester-- SF Ajani Valentine-- I believe this would be the first time in history that a GCBA team would have players go 1 and 2, but we all know that Rochester needs a SF and Ajani Valentine is the perfect fit. He has a slight fouling problem, but overall I would say that for what Rochester needs he is a frontrunner for the #2 pick.
3) Virgin Islands-- PG Evelio Jackson-- This may come as a bit of a shock to the league, but Jackson is one of the best PG's I've seen come out of the GCBA in a long time and VI needs to get a PG that can shoot the ball well enough to keep them in games. Jackson plays a very smart game with no turnovers and few fouls and is tenacious on defense. He'll be an instant impact player on the VI squad.
4) Carolina-- PF Sheldon Gorman-- Gorman is a guy that I feel is deserving of being slected #1 in this draft, but will slip to #4 thanks to team needs. Many thought that Carolina got hurt by losing the lottery, but I actually feel they are getting an almost equal talent to the #1 pick, plus he's younger. Gorman brings so much to the table and he will step right in as a strong contributor to the Carolina franchise. If their ownership is smart he'll be their franchise player for a long time.
5) Andorra-- C Al Herbert-- Herbert is the top Center to be selected in the draft and it's about time. Andorra has been looking at C's to draft just in case they are unable to keep John Van Horne. Who better than the #1 Center in this class and a guy that nearly won Player of the Yera honors. Not to mention he guided Paris U to yet another championship.
6) Washington-- PF Samson Erickson-- Erickson just makes the most sense here. Washington has all their starters set so they will be looking mostly for solid depth and why not draft the best rebounder in the draft. Rebounding is something that anyone can always use.
7) Miami-- PG Pete Nelson-- This may seem odd, but Nelson is a great PG and some WBA team is going to get very lucky to have him. Miami has a nice team so this pick could go a lot of different ways, but here they get a PG that doesn't turn the ball over and plays solid defense, plus he shoots the ball well. That's a well rounded PG.
8) Birmingham-- PF Raphael Park-- Amazing that such a talented player could slip down to the #8 pick. He'[s a well rounded player who should adjust well to the league. He may have to work on his rebounding a bit, but overall he's a strong player. Birmingham will be very happy with him playing alongside Watts.
9) Cincinnati-- SF Asher Ward-- Ward will be a very nice addition to any team. He's the complete package at SF and could easily go much higher in this draft. He's a great rebounder and he is a threat every time he touches the ball. Cincy could really use a player like that.
10) Virgin Islands-- SF Wu Dian-Fan-- The third SF to go this draft is almost as good as the first 2. He's a better scorer, but he is a weak rebounder and has some defensive issues. He will need a few seasons to make an impact, but he may also be a nice surprise to a VI team needing scoring.

Draft Preview
1- Roswell
Walt Jackson, SF/PF: Our guess here is that Roswell will go with the best player and to us, Walt Jackson is the best player in this draft. Roswell has Tyler Durden at the SF spot and Cristobal Dasher at PF, but if they choose to go with Jackson, Dasher can move over to center, giving Roswell a decent frontcourt.
2- Rochester (via Montana)
Wu Dian-Fan, SF: Rochester has struggled on offense this season, and Wu might be the best offensive player. Plus he would be a nice addition to replace the tragic loss of Rondall Reynoso.
3- Virgin Isl. (via California)
Evelio Jackson, PG/SG: Well, it looks like VI has lost faith in Umberto Ditullio. Can he be a starting point guard in this league? Plus, Scooter Jacobs, coming off a great seson, is a free agent and not getting any younger. Jackson can play both the point and shooting guard, so VI can start him at either position.
4- Carolina
Sheldon Gorman, PF: Center Keyshawn Eosso and power forward Simeon Hill are two of the only bright spots on this squad. Luke Benner's contract is up and Carolina certainly has the money to retain his services. So drafting a guard here would seem like the obvious choice, but can they pas up on Sheldon Gorman? We personnaly believe here that Gorman is just too good to pass up on at number four.
5- Andorra (via Miami)
Ahmed Dougherty, SG: Everyone in the WBA knows that Andorra has one of the worst backcourts in the league. So drafting the best guard available makes sense, and Dougherty is that player.
6- Washington (via New York)
Al Herbert, C: This is a hard pick to predict, because Washington doesn't need it, having all its important players back, and they have youngsters and able backups at every position. It wouldn't be a surprise if that pick was traded. If not traded, Washington might go with Al Herbert, because Casey will be a free agent next season. But they have Reed Moses, so it could go any way.
7- Miami (via Andorra)
Reid Dall, PG: They might either go after a center as insurance in case they arent able to resign Marty Williams, or go after a point guard, since Miami management seems unsure about Alvin Simpson. Our guess is that they will go after Reid Dall, since they already have Jose Nobis to take over for Willaims should he decide to leave.
8- Birmingham
Samson Erickson, PF: Blackstone and Delaney are entering their final contract year, so Birmingham probably will go after a small forward or a power forward here. The best rebounder in the draft will do!
9- Cincinnati
Adjani Valentine, SF: Misha Kryznetsov is a free agent and they might go after a shooting guard, but having Valentine available at this spot, they just might go after his defense. He would be a great complement to Abegunda Abasi, being able to help out Brandon Sandelr on defense.
10-Virgin Isl.
Evan Kerr, SG: Assuming they got Jackson with their first pick, how about a shooting guard to complement him? Evan Kerr is a great shooter that would be able to replace Jacobs. A rookie backcourt to go with the young frontcourt of Marques Houston and Kelvin Boice would be a great foundation for VI.
11-Sacramento
Chad O'Donnell, C: Sacramento has players under contract at every position but they need help still since they didnt make the playoffs. Considering Cushman has trouble staying on the court, they might choose the college defensive player of the year.
12-Rochester
Raphael Park, PF: They might go after a backup shooting guard like Johny Blaylock here, but if Raphael Parks is available, it might be too tempting to grab him here. He could provide offense with Dian-Fan or even challenge Jack Berger and Jerry Sims for the starting power forward spot.
13-London (via Omaha)
Johny Blaylock, PG/SG: Its obvious that London needs a shooting guard, and Blaylock is the best one available.
14-SLC (via Gabon)
Pete Nelson, PG: They might loose Eric Manning, so drafting Nelson here makes sense. He would be insurance in case Manning would leave, and if he does not, Nelson will be a great backup.
15-Salt Lake
Joe Brennan, SF/PF: Owning two consecutive picks, SLC might cover themselves here in case Cordell Parks should leave. Joe Brennan is not the defensive player Parks his, but SLC already has other great defensive players and Brennan might be a great pick here.
16-Capetown (via Texas)
Ryan Lowe, PG/SG: Chuck Henderson will be a free agent after next season and Capetown might want to draft Lowe to cover themselves. He will get a year to earn playing with Henderson and would be a good backup this upcoming season, wether its at the point or at shooting guard.
17-Baltimore
Rodger Garson, SF: Mike Ivey and Odibe King, both of whom were at one point the starting small forward's on this team are free agents, Rodger Garson is the best available small forward at this point and could help out Baltimore right away.
18-Gabon (via Boston)
Javonte Bolk, PG: Will they go for center Junior Jones here? Most seasons they draft a center with their first pick, but with Jim Wilson and John Devine, that is no longer a need. Point guard seems to be the weak spot and Javonte Bolk is the best point guard available.
19-London
Asher Ward, SF: Abdullah Chanda does not appear to be a favorite in London and Nick Adams is a free agent. Asher Ward is the best option for a small forward here and might be the best player available at this point, so it makes sense for London to draft him here.
20-London (via Capetown)
Liam McKee, PF: London's third first round pick here, they drafted a shooting guard and a small forward. Now they could go after a PF, someone like Liam McKee would do. He might be a steal if he falls that far.
21-Albacete
Junior Jones, C: Albacete doesn't seem to need one player at a particular position, so they will draft the best player available. At this point, Junior Jones is that player.
22-Colorado (via Budapest)
Sam Hickerson, C: They need a center in case Sean Ashman bolts after the season. Hickerson is a great pick at number 22 if he makes it there.
23-Colorado
Darius Burnes, PG: Two consecutive picks, and their starting point guard, Charlie Daidone, is a free agent. Darius Burnes is the best point man available, and could be Colorado's choice.
24-Oregon
Steve Miller, SF: Oregon has two natural power forwards playing the 3 spot, and id Miler is available at this point, Oregon will grab him. Miller was one of the favorites to win GCBA player of the year and will be steal if he falls that far.
25-Birmingham (via Nebraska)
Cory Brooks, SF/PF: The philosophy for the rest of the picks here might be to grab the best available player. Cory Brooks in our opinion is the best available.
26-Brooklyn
Kolby O'rourke, SF/PF: They might loose point guard Justin Krueger, but the point guard available at this point might not be first round material. So again, they might pick the best player available.
27-New York (via Washington)
Carlos Williams, C: Rookie Tyriq Lang was the starter in the middle, and he will need some help. Carlos Williams could be a great steal should he fall that far.
28-Cancun
Auston Monte, SF/PF: With rumours spreading that Brad Bangerter is going to SLC after the season, Cancun will have to look for someone to replace him. Auston Monte seems like the best candidate here.
Other who could get looks as first rounders:
SG Seth Finklestein, SG/SF Jeremy Aarons, PF Derrontay Simms, SF George Bissett, SF Jamie Darnall SF, Jim Koons C, Jim Young PF, Quinn Davis, C Jake Cone. PF/C Jack Berkley

Playoff Review… After Day Day 78
With 6 Days left, the WBA Playoff Race is heating up!
WESTERN CONFERENCE
The playoff seedings are not set as of yet… But a lot of teams have outside chances to make the playoffs… Teams like Rochester, Virgin Islands, Sacramento, California and Montana future rests on other teams…
Rochester is usually a fix for the number 8 seed in the East and Gabon is usually higher in the ranks. But this season has been filled with thrills, and the finish should be the same… Rochester needs to thrive to play better than average… VI could have lost there momentum yesterday with a devastating lost to Miami… But they still have an outside chance of making the playoffs… Lets take a quick look at the teams eyeing the #8 seeds in the playoffs, and weekly predictions…
DAY 79
1040. Virgin Isl. at Baltimore - VI by 5
1041. London at Montana - London by 11
1045. Omaha at Capetown - Capetown by 15
1046. California at Albacete - Albacete by 15
1048. Sacramento at Washington - Washington by 15
1050. Carolina at Gabon - Upset… Carolina by 3
So after Day 79, we will see… VI actually move with in 2 games! Thanks to Carolina, and Cincy will actually game a 1 game advantage over Omaha! And Montana and Cali will be ELIMINATED!
DAY 80
1054. Gabon at Omaha - Omaha by 3; just because they are hungry… this is a must win game…
1060. Virgin Isl. at Washington - VI is hungry but Washington is good… VI usually gives Washington some hell, but unless all engines are firing away… Washington by 11
1062. Carolina at Sacramento - Nothing to lose or Win… Carolina playing spoiler… Nah, not twice in one week.. Sac by 23
1063. Cancun at Rochester - Rochester has to hate having to play Cancun… Nevertheless, Cancun by 5
1064. Cincinnati at Albacete - Hey Cincy, you not there yet.. Albacete stands in your way… Better bring the globetrotters… Albacete by 15!
So after Day 80; If Omaha actually upsets Gabon… Rochester will still be out by 1 game… VI out by 2 games, Sac out by 2.5 games… The Wild will take over the 8 seed in the West…
DAY 81
1068. Budapest at Rochester; Rochester again will slip… Budapest by 5… Rochester is a solid team, but I don't see them overtaking Budapest in this battle…
1069. Salt Lake at Gabon; Gabon will shake the funk and win this game… Gabon by 11
1073. Sacramento at Albacete seems to be a thorn in the foot of everyone… Sacramento will be eliminated with this lost… Albacete by 15
1074. Cincinnati at Birmingham; Cincy… will open the door for Omaha to take a game and a half lead for the #8 seed in the West… Birmingham by 2
1077. Virgin Isl. at Omaha; Probably the most important game for both teams this season… Expect a battle… VI won the first match… and will win the 2nd match too… VI by 3
After Day 81, Omaha and Cincy will still be separated by a half game… Gabon will have have a two game lead of Rochester and Virgin Islands…
DAY 82
1080. London at Gabon; VI and Rochester will be smiling after this game… Gabon will bring a battle, but London by 4!
1082. Washington at Rochester; Rochester will smile, but not for long… Washington will not miss a step and Washington wins by 5
1086. Omaha at Salt Lake; Omaha hasn't won against Salt Lake all season… Now would be a great time, but history repeats it self and Salt Lake wins by 10
1089. Cincinnati at Texas; Great opportunity for Cincy to take advantage, but it will not happen, or will it… This is a toss up game… The series leads toward Texas… So I do too.. Texas by 5
1090. Brooklyn at Virgin Isl.; A Gabon lost… An opportunity, an old foe… An old fashion butt kicking… Sorry VI… But take it like a man… You still have a chance… Brooklyn by 10
So after Day 82… We still have a heated race… VI and Rochester out by two... Omaha holding on to the half game lead…
DAY 83
1100. Cincinnati at Brooklyn - Brooklyn, just broke one heart… Why not two hearts… Brooklyn by 15
1102. California at Omaha; Cali is out… Nothing to win or lose… Cali by 10…
1103. Rochester at Virgin Isl.; hum.. Both know this is the day to catch up a game… One will be eliminated… VI holds the series lead for this season… I am basis. Sorry.. VI eliminates Rochester by 1
1105. Gabon at Nebraska; Need I say anything! Nebraska by 18
So going into the last day of the season… We have VI out by 1 and Cincy out by a half game… Only 4 games matter…
DAY 84
1108. Gabon at Budapest; VI is looking at this game in the locker room… Budapest is falling… Um… In this epic battle, Budapest defeats Gabon in OT by 5…
1110. Virgin Isl. at Colorado; So VI needs a win… VI needs an offensive effort to beat this Colorado team… This will be a high scoring affair, VI will prevail by 3 in Doulble OT.
1117. Albacete at Omaha, Albacete again… The can't win them all… Bye Bye Cincy… Omaha wins by 5
1120. Montana at Cincinnati; this game doesn't matter.. Cincy wins by 5, but the damage is done
SO WE HAVE A TIE IN THE WEST… GABON AND VI SPLIT THE REGUAL SEASON SERIES… A PLAY IN GAME WILL GIVE GABON THE NUMBER 8 SEED…
THESE ARE MY OPINIONS… A LOT OF YOU WILL SAY THAT VI WILL LOSE OUT ON MONDAY, BUT I DON'T THINK SO… IF WE DO LOSE OUT… A HECK OF A SEASON…
July 31st, 2004
ANNUAL MOCK DRAFT (SESSION 9)
1.-CAROLINA. Walt Jackson(SF/PF). The Storm is in big troubles with or without Kevon Duke. While the backcourt seems some kind of “decent”, the frontcourt is infamous. Only Eosso is a player in this league, and Carolina needs to add some bulk to the zone. Walt Jackson is a good cornerstone to start with. Sure he can score from every spot on the court. Besides, he knows how to get to the line. Rebounding has no secrets for him, and he will contribute from the beginning. Throw in that he ca pass the ball and a decent (but he must improve) defensive ability, and you have a number 1 pick
WALT JACKSON 17.5 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.4 bpg
2.-ANDORRA (from Miami). Evelio Jackson(PG/SG). Once upon a time, there was a team with Devonta Corrigan, Mark Miller and John Van Horne playing together, but there was no one left to throw the ball to this trio. Conclusion? You need a PG the worst possible way. The best guard, though a combo guard can play the PG without hesitation. Evelio Jackson is a great passer and knows how to play in control. While he can score when needed, he will never be a shoot first player. His defense is amazing and he puts up a lot of intangibles to the game
EVELIO JACKSON 15 ppg, 7.0 apg, 2.5 spg
3.-ROSWELL. Pete Nelson(PG).If your playmaker is Wesley Phillips, you are a lottery bound team. Roswell has a lot of issues to solve, but maybe the PG is the greatest.. Nelson will add some passing to this team, some good defense and he wont be shy if he has to shoot the ball
PETE NELSON: 15.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 4.7 rpg
4.-WASHINGTON(from New York). Samson Erickson (PF). Washington could be the team that doesn't need a lottery pick, but who cares? You always can invest in a good player. The weakest spot here is the PF, and the best player is Samson Erickson. He is a very aggressive rebounder, and has a lot of great moves around the basket. Besides his aggressiveness, he is a very smart player who doesn't commit easy fouls
SAMSON ERICKSON: 17.3 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.7 bpg
5.-BIRMINGHAM. Ahmed Dougherty(SG). With Vilasny distributing and Kutak playing combo guard, the Fury needs a SG to have a good rotation in the perimeter. Maybe Dougherty is the ideal choice here. Good perimeter shooting, nice passing, nice defense, he will be an important player for the team selecting him
AHMED DOUGHERTY: 16.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.6 apg
6.- MIAMI (from Andorra). Wu-Dian-Fan(SF). Here comes the best scorer this draft. He is capable of scoring at will. He will need to improve a little bit his rebounding and passing to be in the elite in the WBA, but in 2 seasons could be an all star
WU-DIAN-FAN: 20.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.0 apg
7.- ROCHESTER(from Montana). Seth Finklestein(SG). Losing Reynoso was a blow, but he is easily replazable with Berger and Axelrod. McCarty owns the zone, the a guard is needed here. Finklestein is a capable scorer with a nice, but developing al around game. He could unload McCarty of some double teams with his dangerous perimeter shot
SETH FLINKLESTEIN: 18ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.3 apg
8.- VIRGIN ISLANDS (from California).Johnny Blaylock(PG/SG) Can you believe it? Robert with a chance to be in the playoffs and 2 lottery picks. What are the needs? A shooting guard is very urgent, and while blaylock can play PG too, he is a good shooter to play in the wing. He will be capable of giving DiTullio some rest playing the point when needed. HE will get some needed rebounding too
JOHNNY BLAYLOCK: 14.0 ppg, 6.4 apg, 6.5 rpg, 2.5 spg
9.-LONDON(from Omaha). Evan Kerr(SG). Its well known that Peter Parker and Jesus Diened cant be starters in this league if you want to go deep in the playoffs. Evan Kerr is a very good shooter who becomes great from the 3-point line. Throw in a great court vision to put the ball when and where needed and you have a great young player
EVAN KERR: 16.9ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.2 apg
10.-VIRGIN ISLANDS. Junior Jones (C). Now with a SG, Robert needs to start thinking about replacing Al Zarra at center. This draft isn't the best with centers, but Junior Jones is a good addition. With a good shooting touch, and a knack for rebounding and blocking shots, he will be an immediate contributor for VI. His ability to not commit fouls should be considered too.
JUNIOR JONES: 13.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.3 bpg
11.-SACRAMENTO. Raphael Park(PF). With some depth needed in their frontcourt, the Fighting Cocks should use this pick in a C or a PF. Given the lack of good C in this season draft, a PF will be enough. Raphael park is a very good scorer around the basket and he visits the line a lot. His rebounding is good enough to play with the pros, and you can't forget some ability to pass the ball.
RAPHAEL PARK: 20.9 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 3.0 apg
12.-ROCHESTER. Javonte Bolk(PG). Now they got a SG, maybe some kind of a backup for Jimmy Whalen would be welcome. Bolk is a scoring PG who can change the pace of the game. He's not the best passer, but he can held his own distributing the ball.
JAVONTE BOLK: 16.5 ppg, 5.8 apg, 3.4 rpg, 2.0 apg
13.-SALT LAKE CITY (from Gabon). Cory Brooks(SF/PF). Brooks is a scoring forward who could be immediate help for the Fanatics. Brad has great players around but he lacks a starting PF. Brooks has great range with his shot and he is really not shy to ask for the ball. He will need to improve his rebounding to play PF with the pros.
CORY BROOKS: 17.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.5 bpg
14.-CINCINATTI. Ajani Valantine(SF). The cyclones have good players in every position, but they aren't very deep. The best available player IMO is Valantine. Sure his stats aren't great, but you have to love his possibilities. He can score for sure, he in a rebounding machine and a good defender…talk about Williams U not taking profit of a good player
AJANI VALANTINE: 10.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg
15.- SALT LAKE CITY. Al Herbert(C). Once we have a PF, Brad could think about solidifying his frontcourt with a tough center. Herbert wont command shot, but he knows how to get to the line. His best characteristics are the rebounding and the defense
AL HERBERT: 14.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.7 bpg
16.- LONDON. Derrontay Simms(PF). Abdullah Chanda isn't getting any younger, and David is trying to trade him while he still has some value. Simms can rebound with anyone in college league, but he is sure he will translate it to the pros. He will need some training to improve his FG%, but he's a good player
DERRONTAY SIMMS: 13.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.7 bpg
17.- BOSTON. Brenton Daniels. Boston doesn't have a decent passer and they would be a lot better with a good playmaker. Daniels is a specialist penetrating through defenses and drawing a lot of fouls. He really needs to work his defense, given that he makes a lot of fouls too
BRENTON DANIELS: 13.5 ppg, 5.0 apg
18.- CAPETOWN (form Texas). Carlos Williams. The bandits are one of the worst teams when you look at big men, and it's a pity that there's no great centers this year, but Carlos Williams could really help Capetown. While he's not a scorer, he can contribute in the offensive end, and he is a good rebounder. He needs to adjust his defense to stay on the court, but he would have minutes to play with Capetown
CARLOS WILLIAMS: 13.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.7 bpg
19.-BALRIMORE. Roger Garson (SF). Here we have a player that is not great at anything but does everything very good. Garson isn't the best scorer but he is really over average. He isn't the best rebounder, but can rebound against any player at his position. He is a very good passer and not a bad defender at all. In my opinion, Garson will never be a star, but he will be the kind of player who helps to win championships
ROGER GARSON: 13.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 6.6 apg
20.- ALBACETE. Steve Miller (SF). Albacete is looking for long time a scoring forward, and they don't mind to wait until the draft to get one. Miller is a one-dimensional player…he only scores, he has a great shot for long range, and that's just what Albacete needs
STEVE MILLER: 18.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.4 apg
21.- COLORADO (from Budapest). Darius Burns (PG). Colorado can really allow to pick a player and wait on him to develop. Burns has great stats but I have doubts that he can translate them to the next level
DARIUS BURNS: 9.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 8.2 apg
22.- LONDON (from Capetown). Asher Ward(SF). David could have covered the PF and the SG with his previous picks, and to cover probable Chanda's departure, only a SF is needed. It's a luck that there's a lot of good SFs this year. Ward is a very capable scorer and rebounder. He will never make forget Chanda, but he can cover the SF with Nick Adams
ASHER WARD: 14.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.3 bpg
23.- COLORADO. George Bissett (SF). Once it's clear that Edgar Kamara will need time to develop, maybe one other SF is a good idea. Like Kamara, Bisset is a great passer, but he is a better scorer than Kamara will never be. Defense is not one of his better attributes, but this late in draft, hes a hell of a pick
GEORGE BISSETT: 14.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 5.2 apg
24.- BIRMINGHAM(from Brooklyn). Joe Brennan(SF/PF). Once they feel that all the positions are well covered, maybe it's a good idea to add some bulk to the frontcourt. Not that they are bad, but id Watts is starting at C, Coles could backup him, and if Delany plays PF, who plays after him?. Birmingham players haven't been blessed with lots of stamina, and Brennan could make sense with his rebounding ability
JOE BRENNAN 14.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.6 spg
25.- OREGON. Kolby O'rourke (SF/PF). Like Brennan, O'rourke could be a steal this late in draft. The things he is asked to do, he excels. He's a little better scorer than Brooks, and a good rebounder too, but he needs to improve his passing to play SF or his blocking ability to play PF
KOLBY O'ROURKE: 14.7 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 2.3 spg
26.- NEBRASKA. Jamie Darnall(SF). Given recent problems of Wayne Taylor with staying healthly, a SF is the real need of Brandon, but given the amount of good SFs this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him trading up to get Midwest's Steve miller or even Wu-Dian-Fan. Darnall is the best SF available, and he is a nice scorer with some all around game and a history of winning with Paris
JAMIE DARNALL: 15.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg
27.- CANCUN. Auston Monte(SF/PF). Cancun really doesn't need more players, but we all know that Bangerter will end in Salt lake City. Monte will cover his lose
AUSTON MONTE: 14.8 ppg, 8.9rpg, 1.9 spg
28.- NEW YORK (from Washington). Liam McKie (PF). New York, trying to solve the impossible could select a point forward. Mckie loves to distribute the ball a will do everything out of scoring for his team
LIAM MCKIE: 11.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.8 apg

Draft Preview
Every year there are several draft predictions done trying to narrow down who each team will select. I am going to try a new approach and instead list out position ratings. It shouldn't influence my draft very much since I own no picks. So here are my top 3 players at each position.
Point Guard
1) 4SR Evelio Jackson 12--- B+ B- B-/ B+ B / B B-/ D D A+ E+ A+ B A+ A A+ A- -0.0173 -0.0125
Jackson brings a lot of things to the table at the PG position. He's a solid shooter who does well from the line. Jackson is also a premier passer and he plays excellent defense. He gets a lot of steals and is great with ball control committing very few turnovers. Jackson also has great intangibles for a basketball player and always seems to be in the right position. He's a very smart player.
2) 4SR Reid Dall 1---- B+ B+ D+/ B- B+/ B+ C / B- C+ A- D A+ B- A+ A A+ A- -0.0062 0.0099
Dall could just as easily be the top PG, but he is a weaker offensive threat and he doesn't move the ball around the floor quite as well. Dall does hit the boards pretty well for a PG and he is also a very strong defensive threat. Dall is also a pretty smart player in his positioning.
3) 4SR Pete Nelson 1---- B+ B- B+/ B+ B / C A+/ B C+ A E- A- C A+ A A+ A- -0.0046 0.0081
Nelson brings a superb offensive game to the table for a PG. He can hit shots from all over the floor and he has great court vision to get the ball to open teammates. He commits very few turnovers and is strong defensively.
Shooting Guards
1) 4SR Ahmed Dougherty -2--- B+ B+ B+/ B A-/ C A+/ B+ B- B+ D- B+ B+ A+ A A+ A -0.0129 -0.0103
Dougherty brings the complete package to the WBA as a SG. Not very many players can compete with his all around ability. Ahmed can hit shots from anywhere and he rebounds pretty well for a SG too. He gets the ball to open teammates and knows how to not turn it over in the process. Ahmed is also a very strong defensive player. He is also a smart player and gets to where he needs to be to make the team flow.
2) 4SR Ryan Lowe 12--- B B B+/ A- B / C B / C- C- B+ D+ B C B+ A A+ A- 0.0145 0.0139
This is my first real surprise in the rankings. I really like the offensive ability of Lowe, both as a shooter and as a passer. He is also good with the ball and doesn't commit turnovers while playing strong defensively.
3) 3JR Jeremy Aarons -23-- A- B- B / B A-/ C- B / D+ B A- D- B D A+ A A+ A- -0.0038 0.0078
Aarons is a premier SG prospect and could easily be the #2 prospect at the position. He is a great offensive weapon and he hit's the boards well for a SG. He is also a great passer and is smart with the ball. He is only an average defender, but he will make someone a great SG in the WBA.
Small Forwards
1) 4SR Wu Dian-fan --3-- B+ B+ A-/ B+ A-/ A- A-/ A- B+ C+ C+ B B+ A A A+ A+ -0.0092 -0.0108
Depending on team needs I think this guy deserves a look as a top 5 pick. Wu is an amazing offensive talent. In fact, he may very well be the best in the draft. He rebounds the ball decently and moves the ball when he has to. He is only an average defensive player, but he plays controlled basketball by limiting his fouls and turnovers. He will be an impact offensive player in the WBA as a rookie.
2) 4SR Ajani Valentine --3-- B+ B+ A-/ B+ C+/ A+ B-/ A A+ C C+ A+ D A+ A A+ A+ -0.0015 0.0010
Ajani is the second Williams player to make the top 3 lists. He brings a complete package to the table at the SF position. Depending what type of player you are looking for he could be the top SF. Ajani is an amazing rebounded and he plays great defense. All that is done while also providing a good offensive threat from every range. He doesn't cost his team with turnovers, but you will have to watch his foul situation closely.
3) 4SR Rodger Garson --3-- B B A-/ B B / B B-/ B+ A- A- D B- B- B+ A A+ A -0.0044 -0.0057
Garson is another great offensive minded SF. He is pretty balanced across the board with a nice rebounding average and a good eye to move the ball to open teammates. He is a bit weak at defense though and may have foul issues in the WBA. He'll go through an adjustment phase, but he will be a WBA impact player.
Power Forwards
1) 3JR Sheldon Gorman ---4- B+ B A+/ A C+/ B- B-/ B- A+ C+ A- C B- A+ A A+ A+ -0.0062 0.0130
Gorman is a can't miss prospect in my eyes. He is an amazing rebounder and he plays a solid game defensively. He may have to watch his fouls for a couple season, but it shouldn't be a big issue. He doesn't turn the ball over and he looks to get his teammates involved most of the time. His one knock may be his positioning offensively.
2) 4SR Walt Jackson --34- B+ B A+/ B+ A+/ C- A+/ A- A+ B B B- C- A+ A A+ A+ 0.0014 -0.0012
Walt Jackson may be the top overall pick in the draft. He can hit a shot from anywhere on the floor and is comfortable playing SF or PF. He is an amazing rebounder and he gets the ball around well. He may be a bit weak defensively and he has foul issues which will hold him back a bit to start with. Jackson will be an impact player offensively, but will need time to develop his defensive game.
3) 4SR Samson Erickson ---4- A- B+ A-/ B+ B-/ B+ C+/ C- A+ C+ B C+ A B+ A A+ A+ -0.0034 -0.0098
Erickson could just as easily be a top pick as anyone else. He plays solid on offense and is a good shooter. Not to mention the fact that he might be the best rebounder in the entire draft! Like the others he is a bit weak at defense and he will need to work on that, but he doesn't foul which will help a lot. He will see action as a rookie I think.
Centers
1) 4SR Al Herbert ----5 B+ B D+/ A- A+/ B B-/ B- A+ C+ A B- A A+ A A+ A+ -0.0079 -0.0087
Herbert is a guy that managed to play under the radar all season long and then got noticed as the season drew to a close. He helped guide Paris to yet another GCBA Title. he is a great shooter and he knows how to get to the line. He rebounds the ball very well and is a great defender in every aspect. He is even better because he doesn't commit fouls and he doesn't turn the ball over.
2) 4SR Chad O'Donnell ----5 A- B B / A- A-/ B- A-/ A- A- C A A+ B- A+ A A+ A- -0.0176 -0.0083
Chad was the defensive player of the year and for good reason. He is able to shut down opponents completely. Just when you think he is a one dimensional player you find out he is a loaded weapon just waiting to explode also. He has a great pure shot from every area of the floor. His weaknesses would be his lack of rebounding ability for a Center and the fact that he may have a small fouling problem.
3) 2SO Sam Hickerson ----5 B+ B+ B-/ A B+/ C- E / F A C B+ C- C- B+ E A+ A- -0.0001 -0.0096
Sam declared himself early and has helped make the draft a bit deeper at the Center spot. He is a great shooter in the paint, but lacks the range some others have. He is a strong rebounder and he plays above himself defensively. His main asset will be his youth. He may slip a bit in the draft, but in the end he will be a solid choice for a team that can be patient while he catches up.

Playoffs Just Around the Corner
The WBA Playoffs are just around the corner and, while some of the match-ups are not set in stone yet, I thought it would be interesting to break down the possible match-ups we will have in Round 1.
WEST
1) Cancun
8) Cincinnati
Cancun will most likely steal the top seed again for the Western Conference. Cincinnati is a young up and coming team that I feel has a lot of talent. The key match-ups here will be Brandon Sandler against Parker Mason and Craig Bradshaw against Kent Mercer. Sandler will need to make smart decisions with the ball and avoid committing too many turnovers under the immense pressure that Mason employs. He'll also have to be sure to box out and try to limit the number of boards that Mason grabs. The key for Craig Bradshaw is to not be intimidated. He has to make sure that he doesn't get out of sync and that his shots are going in. If he can consistently knock down his shots then Cincinnati will stand a chance in this series. If he lets Mercer get to him then the series will be a short one. Prediction: CAN 3 CIN 0.
4) Colorado
5) Capetown
This would make for an amazing series. Colorado is a scrappy team that is all about having an all around team effort and Capetown is the same way. It would be interesting to see these two similar styles of play meet up. The key match-ups in this series will be Pedro Otis against Shamir Sheth and Mabruke against Edgar Kamara. The reason I pick these is because of the offensive reasons. Colorado relies very heavily on Shamir Sheth to score points for the team. If Pedro Otis can disrupt Sheth's game then Capetown has a real chance to pull out some games. In the same sense, Capetown relies heavily on Obafemi Mabruke to score, so if Edgar Kamara can slow him down then Colorado will have an excellent chance of winning. Both of these teams play superb defense, so I believe that the team that plays the best offensively will be the winner. I also really like Chuck Henderson for Capetown who I think will open up a few more options for them than Williams will for Colorado. If Capetown can beat anyone then it is Colorado because Colorado lacks a dominating Center just like Capetown does. Prediction: CAP 3 COL 2.
2) Nebraska
7) Salt Lake
This is not the match-up that Nebraska wants to draw in the first round. Salt Lake has always been an underachieving team, but you know they will be ready come playoff time. This will make for an interesting series. The key match-ups here would be Cordell Parks against Wayne Taylor and Arnold Eaton against Vance Clopp. The first match-up is obvious. If Cordell Parks is able to hold Wayne Taylor in check then he is already helping out his team a lot. Parks is a defensive specialist which really plays into the hands of SLC. I picked the other match-up because of the youth of Vance Clopp. Clopp still has a lot of holes in his game and Arnold eaton is smart enough to take advantage of those. If Clopp is unable to hold his own in the games then SLC will have a very large advantage of controlling the paint area. Clopp has to be not intimidated by Eaton and know where to go with the ball at all times. Prediction: NEB 3 SLC 1.
3) Oregon
6) Texas
A great showdown in round 1. I know that Texas is not the kind of team I wanted to meet in the first round. Their backcourt leaves a lot to be desired, but they have an amazing frontcourt. Oregon is actually a lot like that also. The key match-ups here will be Jay Vasquez against Lou Gonzales and Cory Mosley against Heiko Van Brandt. Vasquez versus Gonzales is a clash of the titans. This will be an amazing match-up to watch. The key to this showdown will be if Vasquez can keep his composure and score some points against Gonzales. If he can, then I think Texas has a real shot in the series. If Gonzales continues to put up his monster stats then I think Oregon will cruise. The next major match-up is Cory Mosley against Van Brandt. This is another colossal showdown between two more well rounded players. Both of these teams are weak in the backcourt so I think that those weaknesses will not be exposed in this series. It will come down to which teams frontcourt gets the job done. Prediction: ORE 3 TEX 2
EAST
1) Washington
8) Rochester
Rochester is still in the playoffs even though they are currently undergoing a rebuilding project of sorts and they lost PF Rondall Reynoso. The bad news is that they face top seeded Washington. The key match-ups here will be Jim McCarthy against BB Casey and Bert Haug against Emmett Yee. Rochester needs to hit the boards hard in order to limit Washington's chances and a huge part of that will have to be Jim McCarthy. McCarthy has had a quiet year for Rochester, but they need him to break out. He has to dominate and shut down Casey altogether. They also need Bert Haug to pull out his best defensive face and slow down Emmett Yee. Washington relies on Yee to dump in the points so any points they can keep him from getting is a bonus. Prediction: WAS 3 ROC 1
4) Albacete
5) Boston
Here is another intriguing match-up. Albacete is now a 4 seed in the East and Boston continues to hover around that mid-playoff range. The key match-up here is going to be Bobby Cress against Bill Yeager. When these two players go at it for the rebounds it will be a sight. Albacete needs Cress to do as much damage as possible to give them wins. Boston can rely more on Dave Short if needed. I don't see any other meaningful match-ups in this series. Prediction: BOS 3 ALB 2
2) Budapest
7) London
Budapest has played great all year and is really a surprising team to get the second seed in the East. The key match-ups will be Steve Peterson against Kelvin Davidson and Horace Colbert against Larry Chapman. These two teams seem very similar to me in their respective skill areas. I see both teams having basically the same strengths and weaknesses when you break down by position. Davidson and Peterson is a match-up of two of the best PG's in the WBA and Colbert and Chapman are two aging veteran Centers that are well respected throughout the league. I think this could be a pretty even series because of the comparisons in the two teams. Prediction: BUD 3 LON 2
3) Brooklyn
6) Baltimore
The battle of the B's. Baltimore has really put together an outstanding season. The key match-ups are Zane Rivers against Joe Siebert and Shane Strom against Mike Ivey. I'm not even certain that Ivey is the starting SF for Baltimore, but whoever goes up against Strom needs to perform flawlessly. The key for Baltimore will be limiting the chances that Brooklyn gets and trying to take full advantage of their own. That's why Rivers needs to play an amazing series. If he can control the paint then Brooklyn's offense will be limited in shot selection and in attempts. Predcition: BKY 3 BAL 0
Hope you have as much fun reading this as I did writing it!!

Who is the MVP?
By Mike Jordan
Let the debate begin! Every season we have the same old argument about the MVP. All the trash talking starts and there are arguments about stats and what is important and what exactly the MVP represents. So rather than enter into all of that I say we put out a statement with all the facts and info about the premier candidates for the position. So now to the candidates in no particular order…
Player Overview
Lou Gonzales C Oregon
Strengths: Gonzales is a defensive machine. He averages 4.5 blocks and 2.3 steals. He ultimately shuts down opposing Centers and wreaks havoc in the lane. Gonzales also shoots 67% from the field and averages 26 PPG. It doesn't end there though as he has great hands for a big man and dishes out 3.9 assists.
Weaknesses: Gonzales is a bit weak at rebounding for a Center averaging just 7.2 rebounds.
Wayne Taylor SF Nebraska
Strengths: Taylor is an offensive machine. He leads the WBA averaging 30.1 PPG while shooting 48% from the floor. He is also a strong rebounded for a SF averaging 6.7 rebounds. His defense has also come along as he averages 1.7 steals.
Weaknesses: He could be more well rounded defensively. One knock was that his injury would hamper him this year, but Taylor put the doubters to shame and played in most of his teams games.
Emmett Yee SG Washington
Strengths: Yee is a strong offensive presence averaging 28.6 PPG. He also gets 1.6 steals and doesn't commit many turnovers.
Weaknesses: He isn't an exceptional rebounded averaging just 2.9 RPG and his defensive stats leave things to be desired.
Shane Strom SF Brooklyn
Strengths: Strom is a well balanced player averaging 22.8 PPG while shooting 48% from the field. He's a good rebounded at 6.7 RPG and dishes out a PG-like 5.8 assists. He also averages 1.8 steals.
Weaknesses: Strom has a fouling issue averaging 4.3 per game and also lacks some defensive balance.
Statistical Comparison
G M FG FT 3P R A F B V S PPG
Lou Gonzales 72 37 67.1 83.0 0.0 7.2 3.9 3.2 4.5 2.4 2.3 25.9
Wayne Taylor 63 40 47.8 90.8 41.3 6.7 2.5 2.7 0.5 1.3 1.7 30.1
Emmett Yee 72 36 43.3 90.2 12.8 2.9 2.6 2.5 0.0 1.6 1.6 28.6
Shane Strom 72 35 48.0 76.1 12.4 6.7 5.8 4.3 0.0 1.1 1.8 22.8
Games: Some will say that this would hurt Taylor, but he has missed just 9 games so far this season and I would say that isn't enough to exclude anyone from MVP talk. In fact by missing those games it showed his importance to the team as they went just 6-3 without him. Best: Tie Worst: Taylor
Minutes: A draw between all players as they each get about the same minutes.
FG%: Gonzales is by far the best shooter, but he also is a Center that plays around the basket. Strom and Taylor are both very good shooters for SF's. Yee leaves some to be desired as 43% isn't a great percentage for a SG. This category really just shows that Yee is a worse shooter than the rest.
3p%: Taylor is the only player in this group that is a threat from beyond the arc. Strom and Yee hit just 12% each and Gonzales doesn't even attempt anything from this range (which helps his FG%). Taylor is among the top 10 in the league at the 3 ball. Taylor is by far the winner of this category.
Rebounds: All the players except Yee are pretty even at rebounding. Taylor and Strom are identical which I would expect since they play the same position, but Gonzales barely beats them and he is a Center. I would say the winners at this stat are actually Taylor and Strom.
Assists: Strom is an excellent passer and Gonzales moves the ball well for a big man also. Taylor and Yee are no slouches either. I think all the players are adequate at passing with the winner here being Strom.
Fouls: All the same here with Strom pushing the envelope a bit more than the others. But none end up in trouble really.
Blocks: Hands down to Gonzales. Taylor is the only other player here to even record any blocks at all.
Turnovers: Gonzales commits more turnovers than anyone else here by almost 1 per game. It isn't enough to be a weakness, but it is a weakness when compared to the othe three players here.
Steals: All of these players are good at steals with Gonzales getting the nod as the best among them.
Scoring: Wayne Taylor will once again capture a WBA scoring title most likely. In a close second will be Emmett Yee. Gonzales and Strom are not too much farther behind. Taylor can score from anywhere on the floor which keeps so many more options open for him.
Team Comparison
Every year people bring up the team aspect of the MVP. The talk turns to which team has done the best and which player has guided their team to the best record.
Gonzales ORE 51-21 2nd in Pacific (1-2 vs. NEB; 0-2 vs. WAS; 0-2 vs. BKY)
Taylor NEB 53-19 1st in Pacific (2-1 vs. ORE; 2-0 vs. WAS; 0-2 vs. BKY)
Yee WAS 56-16 1st in Mid-Atlantic (3-1 vs. BKY; 0-2 vs. NEB; 2-0 vs. ORE)
Strom BKY 50-22 2nd in Mid-Atlantic (1-3 vs. WAS; 2-0 vs. NEB; 2-0 vs. ORE)
By breaking this down you will see that Oregon has the worst record head to head against the other teams. The others each seem to be able to beat one of the others, but not match up with the other. Relatively close in this section.
Any of these players would make a great MVP and I'm sure there are even more that warrant some consideration. But now you have the straight up facts comparing all the players that have received the hype from this past season. We'll all make our own conclusions based on what we think the MVP is and what our criteria is for the award. Hopefully this comparison will help in that decision making process.

The Draft Draws Nearer
By Melvin Viper
The WBA's annual draft draws ever closer and the excitement begins to build for the young players. So many teams that are not playoff bound are already beginning to scout out the next step in building their franchises. Heck, even the playoff bound teams are looking ahead to what kind of moves they can make. Today was the deadline for draft entry eligibility and a few players shocked their coaches and declared early for the WBA Draft. I'm going to talk a little about each of these players and tell some about why they decided to turn pro.
1) Sheldon Gorman PF West River
Gorman was a threat to win the Player of the Year Award this season as a Junior and for very good reason. He was among the league leaders all season averaging 19.5 PPG on 52.6% shooting. He also managed to pull down a whopping 10.3 RPG and dish out 3.4 assists. Not to mention the fact that he was great defensively also and committed few fouls or turnovers. Gorman was the first player to declare himself eligible for the upcoming draft. WBA teams were salivating over his skills and he knew that by entering the draft this season he could possibly become the #1 overall selection. “It's the kind of opportunity I just can't pass up,” Gorman was quoted as saying. He has said that whomever drafts him he will be more than happy to play for and he hopes he has a long and successful career in the league. In my eyes Gorman has to be a top 5 pick for sure and he will make an immediate impact wherever he goes.
2) Sam Hickerson C Chesapeake
Sam played a solid year for Chesapeake in guiding them to a high seeding for the GCBA Tournament. He averaged a very nice 15.1 PPG and managed to pull down 7.9 RPG also. He coupled this with a strong defensive presence in the paint. Sam quickly declared himself draft eligible for multiple reasons. The first reason was the complete lack of depth at the Center position in this draft. Hickerson vaults himself to the top of the draft lists because of his youth (being just a Sophomore), and his potential. Not a lot of players have garnered the attention that Sam has as a Sophomore. He is good at so many things and that is what makes him a can't miss prospect. Another main reason that Sam has declared early is the rumors that Coach Sam Plummer will be retiring and Hickerson has said he doesn't want to play for any other coaches in the GCBA. “I've had a successful and fun time here at Chesapeake University and I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead at the next level”, said Hickerson. I would rate Hickerson as a mid to late Top 10 selection. He has excellent potential which will help gain interest.
3) Jim Koons SG Paris
Koons was the starting SG for the GCBA Champion Paris University. He managed to average 12.7 PPG on a team where he wasn't an offensive focus. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds which is decent for a SG and averaged 3.7assists. He has excellent ball skills for a SG also and in fact went the entire season as a starter without committing a single turnover! That is an amazing stat. Koons declared for the draft because he felt that he had accomplished what he could at Paris and that he should strike while the iron was hot. He has all the tools needed to succeed in the WBA, but he will probably most likely be a player that you will have to bring along. He will be a very solid player because of his amazing ball skills. That should be enough to keep him on the court for a few seasons until he adjusts to the WBA offensive game. Once he does that he will be a force. “I am used to being a winner at Paris, so I want to be a winner in the WBA too. So only draft me if you plan to win”, Jim was quoted as saying. Many WBA GM's will laugh at the swagger of this young man, but if he produces any of them will deal with it. I would project Koons as a late first round selection.
4) Jeremy Aarons SG/SF Williams
Aarons was the last player to declare himself eligible for this coming draft. Jeremy shot 50% from the floor while averaging 13.3 PPG for the Warthogs. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds and, like Koons, committed very few turnovers. Aarons will be a great WBA SG and by declaring early he has elevated his status for this coming draft. He will be one of the elite SG's available. Aarons said that his main reason for declaring early was that he wanted to stay with his buddy Walt Jackson. He and Walt have formed a friendship over the past few seasons and that is one of the main reasons that Jackson stayed for his senior year. Unfortunately for Williams it is also the major reason why Aarons has declared early this season. “I just felt it was time to move on. Walt was turning pro and I look forward to matching up against him at the next level and showing him how to get things done. Or even better yet it would be fun if we could play together in the WBA also'” said Aarons. I believe that Jeremy Aarons will be a Top 15 selection in this coming draft. I don't see how teams that need a SG will be able to pass on the skill he brings to the table coupled with the fact that he is a year younger than most of the other players.
Hopefully this review of these four players comes in helpful to all those out there that are looking ahead to the draft and trying to gain some insight as to which way they want to go. A lot of times these underclassmen just make the choices more difficult. There are a couple can't miss prospects in this group, and then there are a couple risks. But the risks, sometimes, are well worth the reward.

The Story of Jack Spiegel
By Bob Osborne
Jack Spiegel. What do you think of when you hear that name? Underachiever? Washed Up? Never Was? His name is mud around the WBA and I think it's time to figure out why that is. Spiegel was a very high draft choice a few years back and everyone expected big things from him. He ended up getting dealt several times because his career never seemed to pan out. The ability was right there and every coach could see it, but it just never translated into on the court success. Several coaches have tried to mold him into a superstar and elevate his game to the next level, but each one failed. I took the time to interview Coach and GM Brandon Morfeld as to his thoughts on Jack Spiegel.
Bob: Hello Brandon, good to sit down with you again. I'm here to talk about Jack Spiegel. How has he been playing these days?
Brandon: Well, as you know, Jack has been sitting on the bench most of the year. But as you may also know we haven't really been very active in looking to deal him either. In fact we made no offers to anyone involving Jack. We still think he is a great player and if anything should happen to Vance or Paul then he'll surely get a chance and I think he will be successful.
Bob: Have you noticed any difference in Jack this year from the past?
Brandon: Yes, actually I have. I think that the lack of playing time has really motivated him to try and prove that he deserves to be out there every day and can contribute. In fact he is a much better player this year than he was last year and if it weren't for the outstanding play of Vance and Paul he would be getting a solid look. He had an amazing off season this year and really improved his offensive capabilities.
Bob: Will you be looking to deal him after the season is over?
Brandon: Jack and I have discussed this actually and we have come to an agreement that I will pursue a trade to a team that he has a chance to start for. On that same token we won't let him go for anything less than what we feel a great player like him is worth either. Jack is happy here in Nebraska right now and he understands his role on this team and he wants to succeed. We want to see him succeed. So if any teams out there are listening and you need a Center give me a call lol.
Bob: Is Jack overpaid in your mind?
Brandon: Ha ha. Yes. He is overpaid to sit on the bench for Nebraska! In fact I am sure he'll second me on that one. But in the scope of where his talent puts him among the Centers in the WBA I think his salary is well under the average. This is a guy that could break out next year. In fact I would be more than happy to offer an incentive in a trade regarding the stats that Jack will put up if he is a starter. He can produce. I know he can. I see the raw ability every day in practice. Trust me, you want him to be on your team when he gets the shot.
Next I decided to go do an interview with Jack Spiegel himself and here is what he had to say.
Bob: Your coach says you are overpaid. What do you have to say about that?
Jack: (Laughing) Well, he's probably right.
Bob: So do you have any teams in mind that you would like to be dealt to after the season?
Jack: Not at all. I have no preference on where I play as long as I can get to start. I just want to go out there and help a team win games. I know I can get the job done and I know I can make an impact on a team that needs a Center.
Bob: Why should the league give you another chance?
Jack: Hmmm… To be honest with you I can't really answer that. When I came into this league I was a spoiled brat. I thought that I knew everything and that I could do whatever I wanted and things would just be given to me, but since coming to Nebraska I have realized that hard work is the only way to succeed in this league. Coach has taught me that. He sat me down after last season and told me that I wouldn't be a starter here this year. He told me I wouldn't be a back-up either. At first, I thought forget him! I was Jack Spiegel and he can't bench me. But the more I thought about it the more I realized that I am JUST Jack Spiegel. And JUST Jack Spiegel doesn't win basketball games. Nebraska wins basketball games. A team wins games. I didn't expect to be given my spot back after Vance and Paul stepped up the way they have and are winning games for this team. I just have to wait my turn. And if it comes up at Nebraska then I'll take it, and if it turns up somewhere else then I'll take that. I have no one to blame but myself for my lack of production. It was a youthful mistake.
Bob: So are you ready to start again in this league?
Jack: Most definitely! I am ready to help a team turn it around or else help another team take the next step. I am ready for whatever challenge gets thrown my way and ready to go wherever I need to go to do it. I will help someone win next season. I am a changed person and I am better for it.
So you can all draw your own conclusions about Jack Spiegel. But I can guarantee you that the old Jack Spiegel would have barely said boo to a reporter when he arrived in Nebraska, and this Jack Spiegel was downright fun to sit down with. Some lucky team will get themselves a great player.. a great person…. a great Center this off season. And if no one else wants him-- then Jack-- it's alright if you wanna stay here too.

Taylor's Rehab
By Tom Devaney
This season started off very poorly for Wayne Taylor when he was injured in a preseason workout. He was hustling for a rebound and landed awkwardly on the foot of rookie teammate Vance Clopp. He shook it off and continued the workout, but overnight he noticed that the pain was persistent and he could hardly walk on it the next day. Wayne went in to the Omaha Medical Center where doctors told him he had broken three metatarsals in his left foot. Taylor was stunned and worried that his season may be over. The doctors performed the surgery the following day and Taylor was on his way home with crutches in hand. The good news was that the doctors said the injury healed relatively fast to an acceptable degree to withstand the pressures of the court and a re-injury to a break like this was very rare since pins were inserted to stabilize the foot. However, they warned that due to the nerves around the base of the foot it is likely that these nerves will become pinched at certain times and the pain would be excruciating to walk on. The prognosis was that Taylor would be ready to go by the beginning of the season, but they had no idea how often or how long, these recurrences would last for.
Immediately following the injury Taylor began an extensive and vigorous daily routine that was designed to help strengthen the bones and muscles in the foot even further which would limit the number of pinched nerves that were caused. The going was slow at first and Wayne became very frustrated by the slow progress. He thought he could make large strides in the preseason and gain back some of his health, but it was to no avail. In fact, Taylor missed most of the preseason nursing the injury back to health. Nothing is more frustrating to a superstar than to watch his team out there without him. He vowed right then that when the games mattered he would be there for his team. The inspired play of Taylor so far in the season has been amazing! He has barely missed any games and has led Nebraska to a tie for 1st place in the West at this moment. There are games where the fans and coaches can look out on the floor and they see Taylor limping around, still faster than most players when they are healthy, and they know that he must be in unbearable pain, but they admire the courage as he pushes onward. He played in the All-Star Game despite the fact that he needed the rest. He knew he couldn't let the fans down. That is the kind of person that Wayne Taylor is and the kind of person he makes everyone around him.
All season long he has suffered through the injury and it has affected him physically, but you wouldn't tell it by looking at his stats as he posts a career year. The other thing that most people may not know is that every night whether there was a game or not, Taylor goes back to train with his physical therapist. He won't quit until he feels back to 100% and the pain has gone away entirely. Just recently Taylor has said that the foot is feeling much better and he expects to be able to lead his team into the playoffs with no reservations about an injury. But if for some reason he is unable to go then his new best friend Dave Williams will surely be able to handle anything. Williams and Taylor hit it off as soon as Dave showed up in the locker room. Two guys with similar personalities and an uncanny ability to drop the ball into the net. Unlike when Jim McCarthy or Bill Blackstone passed through the organization, Taylor and Williams seem to have no problem sharing the ball and scoring duties with one another. In fact you will often see them both congratulating one another on big plays and even dishing it out to each other for the open shot. The addition of Roy Base has made both of these players even more deadly because it gives the team three shooters which means more open looks for each. The best thing is that they each know their role on the squad and they fill it. They don't try to do too much and they don't fight over who the bigger star is going to be. It's an amazing team effort. Many coaches and GM's will wonder how it is possible to play a team style of basketball with so much individual star power, but Nebraska is proving that it can be done. The management finally has the ingredients that it has been so methodically looking for. In fact I would expect to see very few changes within the organization anytime soon.
Wayne Taylor is a staple as an MVP candidate every year, and before the season started everyone wanted to write him off as washed up or else say that he would miss too many games to be the best player in the league, but he has proven them all wrong. I am guessing that he will not win the MVP this year, just as he hasn't the past few years. His team has swept Washington and beaten Cancun and Oregon; he has captured yet another scoring title despite having the leagues third best scorer added to the team for an entire season, and he has most importantly, led Nebraska to yet another playoff appearance. Taylor will be ready to go come playoff time and that better scare his opponents. If it doesn't then there is something wrong. Everyone knows when they are playing Wayne Taylor's team. They relish it. This is the guy that everyone loves to beat. Why you may ask? Why does everyone care so much about beating up on one particular player? I'll tell you why… Everyone wants to beat the best!!!

EXCLUSIVE GSPN INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL ESPOSITO
Hi, I am Joe Spencer of GSPN, with Michael Esposito, one of the most controversial owners of the WBA to talk about his team, the Montana Knights.
JS: Your team was excepted to have another decent season with the addition of superstar Heiko Van Brandt in the off-season. However your team only went 7-28 with him before you were forced to trade him. Is there any reason why he did not fit on your team?
ME: Heiko is a great all around player as he was getting us around 13 boards and 7 assists a game, but his shooting was horrendous. He was the reason we were losing. Never before had he shot at such a bad percentage and never before has he ever shot that many times. Maybe he wasn't used to being the go-to guy for a team and he tried to do too much. Sometimes that's a good thing, but that wasn't the case with Heiko on the Montana Knights.
JS: By trading Van Brandt, you were able to obtain a 20 ppg scorer in George Foster, and a 19 year old kid in Jarius Miles. What have their roles been on the team so far (as you have gone 11-10 since the trade), and do you have patience with a player like Miles, who is showing a lot of potential at his age, but still needs to work on his agressiveness and focus on the game (as shown by his TOs and fouls)?
ME: Well, the trade has worked out for us quite nicely. George Foster has played great at shooting guard for us. He gives us the scorer that we needed beforehand, while he also can rebound a little and pass the ball very well. We're still trying to decide, though, if it would be better to keep Foster and trade Dennis Evans, or to keep Dennis Evans and let him mature behind Foster or even possibly trade Foster.
As for Jarius Miles, this is a kid who has megastar potential. This kid could end up being the best player this league has ever seen. The problem here is that, while he has this megastar potential, it could take a few seasons for it to develop. Miles only has 1 year on his contract left and after that we're going to have to pay him an enormous amount of money a few seasons before he can have a huge impact in this league. We're faced with a tough decision when it comes to what to do with Jarius If we get an offer we really like with him involved, we will pull the trigger. If we don't get one anytime soon, Jarius could be a Montana Knight for years to come.
JS: Your team is currently 6 games out of the playoffs. With only 24 games left in the season, do you see your team making an impressive run for the 8th seed, currently occupied by Cincinnati, or are you rather just waiting for next season, as your team does have a young core of players, such as Oliver Doherty, Dennis Evans, Jarius Miles, and Toby McCree.
ME: We're never waiting for next season. We always have a win now mentality and that has been how it is since Heiko left town. It's going to be very tough to make the playoffs this year as there is a cluster of teams close to the 8 seed in the West, but we'll play our hearts out trying to get there. As for the young core of players that you mentioned, they have all looked great at times, and all have looked bad at times. They will need to spend this offseason working very hard on their games so that this team can make a bid to become one of the top teir teams in this league for the next few years.
JS: A lot of your bench players are currently under minimum contracts, including Mike Taylor, Michael Huryta and Lonnie Graham who are getting a few decent minutes per game. Do you plan to keep with the habit of trying sign FAs for minimum contract, or are you looking to sign any big-name free agents?
ME: Well, this year we have around $5.5 million to spend in the free agent market, but we haven't decided what to do with it yet. Right now we project ourselves as being around a .500 team next season and with one big player, we might be a legitimate contender. Now, we could also go the other way and save the money for a contract extension for Jarius Miles and go the route of signing minimum guys this offseason again, but we haven't made our minds up yet on how we're going to spend our money.
JS: Your Harlem pride center, rookie Joe Cochran hasn't seen much playing time this season with Pat Stephenson and Michael Huryta in front of him. Do you have any plans for Cochran, or is he going to end up being a career bencher?
ME: We love Joe Cochran, but we have to be realistic about things. This year he just wasn't ready to step in and be a big contributer to this team. Now, next year, we're thinking about moving him to Power Forward and Toby McCree to SF and seeing what they can do at their new positions. This all depends on how things go in free agency and trades, of course, but either way, we hope to have Cochran for many years to come.
JS: What does the future of your team look like?
ME: Well, our future looks bright. Right now, we have Oliver Doherty, Dennis Evans, Toby McCree, Joe Cochran, and Pat Stephenson who are all under 27 years of age. By next year, we hope players like Doherty can step in and make a huge impact. Players like Stephenson and McCree proved themselves this year by putting up very solid numbers. We think this team is one of the most talented young teams in the league and we hope that means that it turns into an elite team in a few seasons.
JS: Do you have anything else to say?
ME: Nope, not besides thank you. It's been fun and, as most of the league would say, the SLC Fanatics suck.
JS: Thank you, Mr. Esposito for your time. And you are right as even Ken Jennings would agree that his home town team sucks.

Is it the Air?
Bryan Hasho the previous owner of The Roswell XT has long had the reputation for abusing his players. Many WBA insiders blame Hasho for ruining John Greene's career. But, is Hasho really to blame or is it the air in Roswell? Greg Blaxland, the current XT owner, had a great reputation when he owned California for being a players owner. He build a franchise that many thought were about to assend to great heights. Unfortunately, after he left the WBA the California franchise never took the next step. But, now that he is in Roswell he has been heavily relying on the sevices of Wesley Phillips to the point that many are comparing the abuse of Phillips to the abuse of Greene. Players simply can't handle this type of playing time. As a result Phillips now has a pulled groin and team doctors estimate he will miss 12 games.

Best 10 FA agents
By Clark Lane.
Number 10 : Marty Williams (C)
He is the oldest player on this list. He is a very solid center. He rebounsd, shoots, goes to the line and does a little bit of defense. He is not a top center, but he is a very solid center. Why have I put it here? Well, he is a little bit old, but he has at least 2-3 seasons still at top level, and teams without the money to sign the top Centers we are going to see later on this list, will get a good center for limited money. Gabon and Sacramento seems like good exemples of teams that could improve with a solid center like this one.
Marty Williams ----5 A+ A+ B-/ A- B+/ B- E-/ A A+ E B- D C- B+ E A A+ 28
Number 9 : Nick Adams (SF)
He is a nice SF. He has several problems that does not allow him to improve on this list. He is not a great defender, he is not a great rebounder, he does not goes to the line, and he does not have a lot of stamina. With all this problem, he is a good allround Small Forward. Nothing great, but nice. With a little bit of tranning he can be good, but he won't be a star.
Nick Adams --3-- A C+ B / A- E+/ B B-/ C- B+ C+ C C+ C B+ A A B+ 24
Number 8 : Danny Hainge (PG/SG)
I like him quite a bit. As a SG. He is not capable of playing as a good PG if you don't have many passers on your team. He is better used as a SG with good steals, pass and a very nice shoot. Expect him to receive quite a few bids. His INT/HARRAS factor is not good, but he does not turn the ball much, and he does not foul neither so that improves him on my view. On a team with a good PG he could be a key factor with his scoring and helping. He has many years of loyal services for his team left.
Danny Hainge 12--- C A- A-/ B+ B / A+ C-/ C D+ B- F A- B+ B+ A A A- 25
Number 7 : Oliver McCarty (PG)
There are not many good PG's on this Free Agency. He is one of the best but not the best. If the team he is in does not need a pure passer as PG he is your man. He shoots, he goes to the line, he rebounds, he steals. He has a very nice all round play. Expect him to ask big bucks as not many good PG's will be on this FA.
Oliver McCarty 1---- A+ B+ C / B+ A-/ B- B / B- B- B D- B+ C- B A A+ A 25
Number 6 : John Van Horn (C)
Many people will argue with me about this choice saying that he is better than Sean Ashman. Well, he is not. He is a very good Center. He will ask for big bucks, and will give a solid presence on the paint for any team that can pay for his services but he is not as good as Ashman. All of this only because of the age. Because Ashman is 2 years younger. Even if we are talkig of a great Center here. Big bucks for him too. By the way, Oshodi Bombata is a very poor replacemente for this player. Anyway, if Andorra does not keep him, I am sure they will feel it during the whole next season.
John Van Horne ----5 B- B C-/ A- A+/ B- C-/ D A+ E- A+ C- C+ B+ B A+ A- 25
Number 5 : Oman Fatafehi (PF)
He is the only one, the unique, the best PF of this FA! If you are looking for a FA, you are in trouble. He is the only FA that can have a real impact on a team. He has two problems, no assists, and quite a bit of fouls. Everything else is good, towards very good on this player. If Capetown does not keep him they are going to regret it too. None of the other PF's come even close to it. He is not a superstar, but he handles the position easily and he gives quite a lot of things. His salary should go over the 5 m$.
Oman Fatafehi ---4- A+ B C / A C+/ B- B / C A+ E- A- B D+ A+ C A+ A- 24
Number 4 : Brian Collins (SG/SF)
The best SG of this FA. I imagine that London is going to do everything on his hand to keep him. They are going to need it. It is a good SG we have here. There is only 3 things I don't like, his stamina, his steals, and his FT%. But you can not ask for everything. The question is how much will people force London to bid on him? Well, a pure SG, with some nice good allround skills. I don't expect London to have enough money to keep Adams and Collins so if they try to save one of them I imagine it will be Collins...
Brian Collins -23-- A+ C+ A / A- B-/ D- A+/ A- C+ B B F B- B+ A A+ B+ 24
Number 3 : Cordell Parks (SF)
I am really on a doubt if he should be number 3 or number 1. He is the youngest player on this list, and with only 22 years he has a lot of room to improve. But there are 2 things good on him His intangibles, and his fouls. On a each day more charged FT WBA players like him need to improve a lot on that skill. I still think he is a good FA, but who will take the risk?
Cordell Parks --3-- A+ B B-/ B+ A / C- C / D A- C+ B A+ E+ B C A+ A- 22
Number 2 : Eric Manning (PG/SG)
He is a great PG. Even if his shooting percentage is not that good, he brings a lot to any team. By the way, have I heard shooting camp anywhere? I don't know what people thinks, but his A+ assists gives him the edge. He is not a shooter for a team with need, but he is a handyman for an stablished team that needs a solid PG, and have what it needs to cover for his problems. He would be a great fit for Brooklyn, if they had the money...
Eric Manning 12--- A+ B- B-/ C C+/ D+ D / D- C A+ C A- C- B+ B A+ B+ 25
Number 1 : Sean Ashman (C)
The best C around, with the permission of Van Horn. Colorado does have the need, but not the money to keep him, and at only 23 years he is a great player with a lot of room for improvement. His Intangibles are his biggest problem. He could help improve nearly any team. And with all the room for improvement he has, expect him to ask for big bucks. He is the real deal and I expect many teams to fight for him. Even if with the presence of at least 2 other very good Centers I wouldn't doubt if he does not get as much money as other people think he should.

West vs. East
By Pat Fullum
A couple of seasons ago, the eastern conference was considered as far superior to the western conference. Some owners were asking for a realignement. The east is too strong. Teams that dont make the playoffs in the east could easily make it in the west. There were many other arguments, but the fact remained that the top eight to ten teams were just better, and that for a couple of seasons, only a couple of western teams could have competed in the east. But it does seem like things have changed a little. At the time where owners were actively asking for realignment because the east was so strong, Commissioner Rondall Reynoso asked for patience. The argument of the league’s office was that over the years, the balance of power would either balance itself out, or shift to the western conference. Already last season, some WBA observers noticed that maybe the lower teams in the east were a lot worse than the bad teams in the west. But still, the east had a far better record against the west. But what about this season? Currently, the western conference holds a winning record of 131 wins and 127 losses against the eastern conference. And when you look at the top western teams like Cancun, Nebraska, Capetown and Texas, they don’t have anything to envy from the Washington’s, Brooklyn’s, Albacete’s, Baltimore’s and Boston’s of the east. The reason why the east has lost its great advantage is debated. Maybe the west just used the better draft picks to get better, and the young players matured well. It could be that the western owner just made better moves. Or maybe it can be explained by the fact that Wes Ford, who has always played in the east, has retired. But the reality is probably that there’s not one good answer. We just won’t see a conference being far superior to the other for many consecutive seasons; it will change, stabilize and change again. Looking for an answer, one fact that has stood out for me is the dominance the western conference has over their east counterparts at two positions: point guard and center. Many general managers feel that those are the two most important positions in this league to fill. Of course, it doesn’t explain the difference the surge of the west, but it’s interesting. In the west, the top point guards are Parker Mason, Chuck Henderson Oliver McCarty, Bill Andrews, Brandon Sandler, Dexter Kodak and Buck Jones. And let’s not forget about Bishop Stein, currently playing shooting guard but who probably has a great future as a point guard. The east top points are Kelvin Davidson, Steve Peterson, Keith Douglas, Anson Valente and Yuri Vilasny. The group from the west just seems to be better, a lot better. Then let’s look at the centers: west have Kent Mercer, Pat Stephenson, John Van Horne, Lou Gonzalez, Jay Vazquez and Arnold Eaton. The east’s best are Joe Siebert, Boom-Boom, Ramiro Watts, and Bill Yeager while Jim McCarty and Horace Colbert are looking like they are on the downside of their career. Again, the west just seems stronger in the middle. The debate is still on as to which conference is the best, but the only sure thing is that the east is no longer dominating the west! Oh, one last thing: the western all-star team has won the last two meetings against the east all-stars…But that doesn’t mean much, does it?

-These three guys have played well together this season. They complement each other perfectly. Leo Rice does not get too much coverage, but he is a tremendous asset to this team. He is leading the team in rebounding and has solid passing abilities. But his defense stands out the most, as he should get consideration for All-defense this season. A.J. Schulz was ranked number one last season in frontcourts with Brooklyn, as part of the Killer S's. But this season he is ranked number one with division rivals Washington. He was an important acquisition for Washington and continues his strong play this year. As for Casey, with Schulz and Rice providing rebounding, he can focus on scoring. The future hall of famer is averaging a career low in points, but that can be easily explained by the depth of this team and the arrival of Emmett
Yee.

-This is one of the most complete frontcourts. In fact, if it wasn't for one major weakness,
they would be ranked number one. But these three guys have trouble staying on the floor. If they
can avoid foul trouble during a game, they are the best frontcourt. But the fact is they pick up
fouls like Wes Ford picks up supermodels. Shane Strom is having another MVP caliber year, once
again leading the league in votes for the all-star game. He is the second best passer among
frontcourt players. Tom Perkins has fit in nicely, he is not rebounding like he used to, but that is not expected on such a great rebounding team. And he is among league leaders in field goal percentage. Siebert is averaging a double-double and continues his strong play in the middle for this franchise. They are a great trio and are looking to lead Brooklyn far into the playoffs again this year.

Totals: 51.8 81.5 34.3 24.7 9.7 6.4 4.7 5.3 6.2 55.0
-The major difference between this trio and last season's is the emergence of Tony Dimateo.
He is considered by most observers to be the top three point shooter in the WBA, but he has
improved his rebounding this season. He will be strongly considered for most improved player. As
for Corey Mosley, he exploded last season, making all-WBA at the end of the season. He is once
again leading the league in rebounding and plays solid defense because of his quick hands.
Mosley's rebounding is so important to this team, especially because superstar center Lou Gonzalez wont grab that many boards. With Dimateo roaming around the three point line, Gonzalez
has seen less double teams and his having a blast inside. His 67.5% from the floorleads the WBA
and is a personnal best. He is just the best player in the WBA, ever.

-The surprise for Cancun this season was Scott Nicholson's improvement in the offseason. He has
healed well from a serious knee injury, only missing five games thus far into the season. He is
an unselfish player with good passing skills. Kent Mercer is having one of his more difficut
season's statistically, but still is having a solid year. If it wasn't for Lou Gonzalez, Mercer
might be considered the best center in the WBA. As for Lonnie Gerson, he was awarded 20 million
to do mostly one thing: get steals. He is one of the best defenders in the league, using his
quickness to get in passing lanes and create havoc for opposing teams. He is the key to Cancun's
pressure defense.

-Mark Miller was awarded a huge contract this offseason, and he is still a great defender, but
Andorra management has to be a little disappointed in his offensive play. Miller is shooting a
career low 45% from the field, shoots way too many threes and has turned the ball over
consistently. Not what you expect of a guy getting 88 million in free agency. But he does earn
that paycheck playing great "D". Corrigan is one of the good small forwards in the league and
continues to play well. Some observers feel he has played too many minutes in his career and
could become a second John Greene. But so far he is playing great. As for Van Horne, he will be
one of the most sought after player in this year's free agent class. His only weakness is his
shooting, but he is a good defender and rebounder. This group is one of the top defensive trio's
because of VH and Miller.

-This has to be one of the first season ever we dont hear about George Holt taking too many
bad shots! That is because Capetown management has surrounded Holt perfectly. Holt is still a
good scorer that takes a lot of shots, but Oman Fatafehi and Obafemi Mabruke are both strong
shooters. Fatafehi is rock solid, rebounds, plays defense and shoot well. His shotblocking skills are invaluable to one of the worst shotblocking teams in the league. Obafemi Mabruke is one of the league's young stars. He is the only player with Boston's Dave short to average a 20-10. He is the franchise player and with Wayne Taylor's injury problems, who knows, he might supplant Taylor as the best western conference small forward, or player.

-What else needs to be said about young superstar Wayne Taylor? Ever since he came out of high
school, he has proven to be the best scorer in the league. He now has great touch beyond the arc
and has improved his rebounding skills. Right now, he is Lou Gonzalez competition for best player in the WBA. And his injury problem has not affected the team that much, GM Morfeld having well prepared for when Taylor goes down. Roy Base came back to the franchise that originnaly drafted him and has enjoyed success ever since. A good low post scorer, he is an effective defender and rebounds well. Most observers thought that Kris Calhoun was signed to be the
team's starting center, but the strong play of rookie Vance Clopp has made Kalhoun expendable. Clopp still needs to work on his shooting a little but will be a very solid center in this
league.

-This team really took a step forward when they acquired one of the league's most versatile
players in Heiko Van Brandt. VB wasn't playing well in Montana and has found his touch again
in Texas. He is a dangerous weapon when hiting his shots, and he is leading frontcourt players
in assists. Bennie Armstrong is a solid veteran that rebounds well and plays efficiently. But the rising star of the team is Jay Vazquez. Vazquez has emerged this season as one of the most
complete centers in the league. His passing ability is surprising for a center. He is one of the
league's best shotblockers. He will be a MVP sooner or later.

-This is a very good frontcourt, all three players hit over half of their shots from the field,
wich is very impressive. They dont have a great defense, but they dont committ a lot of mistakes. Bill Blackstone perhaps never lived up to expectations, but he is a very good WBA ballplayer. As for Bob Delaney, he can do a little bit of everything, from playing defense
to spreading the ball around, he doesn't turn the ball over and shoots well. He is one player that might deserve more coverage. Ramiro Watts patrols the middle for Birmingham and continues to improve. Not a great defender, but he has a nice arsenal of post moves and can score against
anybody. He is among league leaders in field goal percentage.

Although all of his stats seem to be down from previous seasons, he is having his best offensive year so far. At his side in the post is defensive specialist Wally Birkhead, who is splitting his time with Cameron Sampson. Birkhead is all about defense, and has impressive
defensive stats in only 26 minutes of play per game. The third member is Cordell Parks, who is
playing for a new contract. He is a solid all-around player, having no major weaknesses. The
youngster is having by far his best professional season, and SLC probably will try to keep him
in town for the next couple of years.

-Maybe this group of players should be higher. The weakness that keeps them here is the lack of
defense. They are among the worst in blocks and steals. Art Campbell was signed as a free agent
but is not enjoying the same success he did as a rookie. But that could be explained by the fact
he plays eight minutes less per game. As for Short, well it sems he always is good, season after
season. He was again the starting power forward for the east, and one of only two players to
average 20 points and 10 rebounds. Yeager is also having a strong year, shooting well from the
floor, and providing shotblocking to a team that had him at its only shotblock threat before
Magic Toby came over from Gabon in a trade. If they could improve their defense just a bit, they
would be ranked among the best!

-Gabon's eternal search for a center has been well publicized over the years. This season they
drafted John Devine, who seems to have promise but is injury prone right now. In a couple
of seasons, he just might be the answer the Giants were looking for at center. As for the
present, Devine is backing up Jim Wilson, a career backup that has been limited by his low
stamina. He is a very good center when on the floor, forming a good duo with Devine. At the small and power forward, Derek Vinyard and Jerry Bramson are two strong players. Vinyard is shooting a career low 39.6% and grabbing a career low 7.4 rebounds a game. But he does not have to rebound as much with two good rebounding centers. Jerry Bramson moved back to his natural power forward spot after being an all-star as a center last season. He is the MVP of this

players have staying out of foul trouble. They are just behind Brooklyn for fouls among
frontcourt groups. Bill Rainwater has the potential to lead the league in scoring but he has to
manage to stay on the floor more than 29 minutes to accomplish that. Marty Williams has the same
problem, as he sould be getting more stats in blocks and rebounds especially. He is in the final
year of his contract and did not choose the right time to have the second worst year of his
career. But Williams is still a very good center when he is not sitting on the bench. John Davis

But Kamara is only a rookie and although heis struggling, he has shown some promises. He is obviously having problems hitting shots, but he does have an all-around game and will only improve. Sean Ashman was the surprise winner of last season's three point contest. He does not get the big minutes like the big
centers do but is proving to be a very good center. And Greg Lacy help makes this unit one of

a frontcourt. But a lot of the blame for Rochester's woes can be placed on the shoulder's of Jim
McCarty, who has played horribly for a player of his talent. McCarty is having the worst season

power forward, Jack Berger, is a capable player that once started for this franchise and he now

Miami to avoid having the worst western conference record.

-Angel Rojas was signed to a big free agent contract by the California Hellcats this offseason,
but he is still a project. Rojas hasn't improved his conditionning much and still has injury
problems. But when he does play, he is an effective power forward, shooting well and blocking
shots. The center, Chuck Murphy, is a good defender, but the seven footer seems to have a lot of
trouble rebounding. His 3.6 rebounds are the worst numbers for any WBA starting center. Brody
Liang is the player who does the dirty work for this ballclub. He does not look to score much,
but plays defense, goes to the board and passes the ball.

-When Budapest gets Johny Brose back, they will be much improved in this standing. But as of
right now, this is a weak group. Kinsey is a strange player, plays out of control but he gets to
the line and rebounds very well. He does not get big minutes and seems to get strong competition
for playing time from newly acquired Floy Acevedo. Roy Cader is a good scorer and defender while
T.J. McFarland has struggled after missing last season, but he does split his time with Larry
Chapman. Budapest likes to have a 12 man rotation, so these guys have to sacrifice stats for the
benefit of the team. The weakness upfront only makes the starting backcourt of Jalen Bell and
Steve Peterson that much more impressive.

-The main reason these two are rated here is the surprising success of Budapest. Year after year most observers predict them to finish out of the playoffs, but year after year they keep staying on top. And the most stable part of this franchise has been its backcourt of Jalen Bell and Steve Peterson. While Bell is strickly a scoring guard, Peterson is a solid defender and good
assist man. Bell, who can also plays some point to give Peterson a breather doesn't make many
mistakes. Both were all-stars this season, the only duo that did so among backcourt players.
And when you look at the rest of the Budapest roster, you wonder how they can be currently seeded number two in the eastern conference. The answer might be its all-star guard duo.

-This backcourt can do it all: score, shoot the open three, play tough defense, get an important
rebound and pass the ball to the open teammate. They could easily be ranked number one. Williams
was the starting shooting guard for the western conference all-stars and was also named MVP. He
has stepped up huge when Taylor went down with injuries this season, having a couple of big
scoring outbursts. Dexter Kodak has also been playing well after coming back to the franchise
that originnaly drafted him. He is most known for his great defense but can also put points on
the board when needed to. No other backcourt scores more point than these two.

-There were doubts when Oregon signed Bill Andrews to a free agent contract this offseason.
Well, those doubts have been erased! Andrews is having a career year in Oregon, rejoining
ex-teammate Lou Gonzalez, with whom he won a championship in ALbacete. Joining him in the
backcourt is rookie Bishop Stein. Stein did have some diffilcuties adapting to the pro game:
he has struggled to find his shot, and the coaching staff pulled a "Roswell" on him by playing
him too much. But that situatino has been resolved by a good coach. He is the front runner for
rookie of the year, he brings a great all-around game to this Oregon squad and he gives them a
great passer at offguard to complement Andrews. It is believed that Stein is the future point
guard of this franchise, but right now Andrews is running the show and doing a great job.

-Any backcourt that has Parker Mason in it will be considered among the leagues best. Mason
is not getting as many assists (career low) but that can be explained by the passing of post
players Scott Nicholson and Brad Bangerter. Plus, Mason is not leading the league in turnovers!
In fact, he has not been in the top ten most of the season. And as always he is one of the best
defensive players in the league. Scott Lio joins Mason in a backcourt that averages a triple
double, the only one doing so in the league. Lio brings a solid game, but could improve on his
jumpshot and his defense is average at best. But he plays agressively, getting to the line and
grabbing boards. This is the best rebounding guard combo in the league, a plus for a backcourt.

championship team back in season 7 and he is looking to lead his team to the promised land
without Lou Gonzalez. The knock on Jarvis as always been that he was only a scorer, but he does
play decent defense as proven by his 2.1 steals a game. Joining him is free agent acquisition
Keith Douglas, a good passer. He is only playing 29 minutes a game, maybe because it is well
known that Albacete's management likes number one draft pick Tyler Kane a lot. Kane will be able
to learn from Douglas while also getting the opportunity to play some minutes.

right now they look like a great backcourt. An all-star for the past three seasons, Foster
continues his strong play, again shooting above 50% this season. While Buck Jones assist have
gone down this season, he is still a solid contributor. One of the reason his assists are so low
might be the fact that Heiko Van Brandt couldnt hit shots in his short Montana career...This
backourt can hit their shots, as they are leading all backcourts in field goal percentage. And
maybe Jones will be back among the league leaders in steals now that VB's low percentage from the field has been replaced by sharpshooter George Foster.

problem both have is their contracts up at the end of this season. But no matter what, they form
a very potent duo in the present. McCarty is a very good rebounder and defender, plus a decent
scorer. Brian Collins is not a long range shooter, but is a smart player that plays within his
limits. It will be interesting to see if Omaha keeps them both and tries to resign them, or will
look to deal them. They are a promising backcourt if they are surrounded by good passers up
front.

shell in Washington, playing off guard. If Yee can work on his three point shot just a little,
he will be an unstoppable scoring machine. Right now he is trailing Wayne Taylor in the scoring
title race. Kadeem Reed is another free agent acquisiton by Washignton that had to switch
positions in the offseason. But Reed had always played like a point, so the transition wasn't
that difficult. He runs the offense for the team with the best record right now. And Reed's
assist would be higher, but Washington has an agressive team that gets sent to the line a lot,
but oe that has a low field goal percentage.

the league. Eric Manning was waiting for an opportunity to play for the past two seasons, as he

team by playing off position, but thus far, it has worked out fine for Boston. They have been on
a winning streak since acquiring him from the Gabon Giants. He still provides good shooting
and passing and he will block some shots. At his side is point guard Danny Hainge, more of a
shooter but forced to play at the point because of the lack of a good point guard. He can score

As for his teammate Alvin Simpson, well he has had problems hiting shots ever since he turned pro. As of late he has fallen low on Miami's rotation. But he is still averaging 8.6 assist while only turning the ball over once every game. His low field goal percentage is the only thing holding him back because he has the skills to lead the league in passing. If this

home in Baltimore, where he is having a career year and is helping Baltimore fighting not only
for a playoff spot, but for home court advantage. As for the man running the show, Anson Valente, he is a great passer. What is most impressing is that he does not turn the ball over, even though he is the primary ball handler on this team. And he cannot shoot. But all the positives outnumber the negatives. plays off position but has the ball handling skills to handle the guard position. Otto Hameleers, the starting off guard for the past six seasons, has been forced to move over to point guard since Gabon dos not have a point man worthy of getting big minutes. but he is still splitting his minutes with Hewlett. But the surprise this season came from Brandon Sandler, the league leader in assists. Sandler is having by far the best season of his young career and was rewarded with a spot on the all-star squad. But even with his great passing
skills, Sandler's strenght might be his defense. He is third in the WBA in steals and he blocks
close to one shot a game.

-Kelvon Davidson is having another stellar season, although his scoring average is his worst
of his career. He was the starting point guard for the eastern conference this season and his
trying to lead his team back to the playoffs. Felipe Juarez was brough in London and had a great
run when Davidson went down to injuries. He is playing for a contract and might give Davidson
some competition for playing time. As for Peter Parker, he looks to be really one dimensional,
a scorer who cant do much of anything else. This backcourt is one of the worst rebounding tandem
in the league.

-Charlie Meyers was signed long term as a project. He is far from being a good point guard, but
he is young and will get the floor time to develop. Al Lee was asked to move over to off guard
after the team acquired Heiko Van Brandt. The consumate team player, Lee moved over and hasn't
skipped a beat. And he signed to a minimum contract, wich helps this franchise immensely. Lee
is a solid defender and can get to the line. It is unknown if the move will be a long term thing
or if the organization will look for a natural shooting guard.

-Kumanchik has been solid for NY, but wont ever be an all-star. He saw his playing time gone
down in recent games but had a very good season last year. He forms the starting backcourt
for NY with Jimmy Foster, once one of the league's best point guards. But it seems Foster has
aged quickly, as his play has gone down for a couple of seasons. Maybe he is not surrounded well
enough in NY to really perform, as he is a very good passer. They turn the ball over too much as
a unit for them to be higher on this list.

-Wesley was once a good point guard. But his coach was Bryan Hasho, a coach known for playing
his players until they fell to the floor. Philips never was the same. He is still a decent
starter, bringing good passing skills and defense to the table. Rookie Maury Coleman is the
starting guard and is learning the pro game. He is a scorer, but hasn't been succesful this
season, but he is still a rookie! He could turn into a very good shooting guard if he works hard
in offseason.

-Yet another point guard who cant shoot. Although Gaiser is a good three point shooter. He is
also a decent passer and could turn into a solid point guard if he can work on his shot. Now for
Sacramento's big offseason acquisition: Harold Gill. He is a good WBA player, his biggest
problem has always been his bad temper. Known as a troublemaker, is he the one responsible for
Sacramento's struggles this season? But when he does control his temper and manages to stay in

-Old man Scooter Jacobs is being rejuvenated in VI! He is having his best season scoring,
and provides great shooting to a poor shooting team. he is not a long term solution, but right
now he is playing well. As of the point guard situation, it seems the VI coaching staff lost
faith in Umberto Ditullio. After being signed to a big contract, he is now riding the bench whileveteran Ed Kane is playing all the minutes as of late. Kane has done a good job, and his stats should go way up if he keeps playing 48 minutes a game.

franchise and gone is Duke. Bucky McCarty was sitting at home when Carolina offered him a
contract,so although he used to be an all-star, he is not the player he used to be. But he his
giving Carolina some help. At one point, Chase was considered a future all-star. But he has not

worse is that he loves to shoot. He would be among the league leaders in points if he worked on
his shot just a little. But he does have the ability to create shots! Tristen Collins has started some games as of late, but no matter if its him or Ryan Cuevas who starts, this backcourt will be the worst in the league. At least Cuevas has some potential. Too bad since they have a great forntcourt!

Rookie Report
With the All Star weekend coming in a couple weeks, we at GSPN have hired reporter Joe Spencer to take a look at the rookies who were drafted and check how they're doing thus far (as of Day 48):
1. Tyler Kane - PG - Albacete
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Tyler Kane 41 17 35.7 61.2 28.1 2.3 4.0 0.4 0.0 0.6 1.5 3.9
Considered by many to be the most controversial #1 pick of all time, Tyler Kane is currently backing-up PG Keith Douglas on Albacete. His stats aren't immediately impressive - only 3.9 ppg and 35.7% FG% in 18 minutes, but Kane was one the top passers in the draft, and his 4.0 apg and 0.6 tpg, gives him an assist / turnover ratio of over 6! Also, he's a smart defender, able to get 1.5 spg but only 0.4 fpg. While it's always going to be disputable whether or not this guy was worth the #1 pick, it is worth noting that his team outscores his opponents at a 1.11 ratio with Kane on the court vs. 1.02 with his other PG, Keith Douglas on the court. And when your team is winning, it doesn't really matter.
JS' grade: C+: Kane might need a couple seasons to improve his main weakness, his FG%, but he should be a solid guard throughout his career.
2. Bishop Stein - PG/SG - Oregon
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Bishop Stein 43 42 33.2 66.9 29.4 6.8 8.6 1.1 1.1 1.9 2.3 15.0
Bishop Stein may be one of the best all-around guards in these league, even being hailed by some as the next Parker Mason. And looking at his stats, you can see why. With 6.8 rpg, 8.6 apg, and 15.0 ppg, he's occasionally going to going to be putting up a triple-double. Of course, Bishop Stein's main weakness was his poor shooting, but after going to shooting camp, he should be starting to improve in that area.
JS' grade: A-: Stein. I'm a little concerned that he might be played too many minutes (as right now he averages about 42 per game), as I don't want him to fall down like other players have from over-fatigue, but he's good all-around player who looks to be a blossoming star.
3. Edgar Kamara - SG/SF - Colorado
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Edgar Kamara 43 27 30.0 70.7 40.2 4.2 5.2 2.0 1.1 1.0 1.5 7.1
Right now Kamara is starting at SF for Colorado. He does have promise, shown by his ability to pass (5.2 apg), as well as pull down some boards (4.2 rpg), and play D (1.5 spg, 1.1 bpg). However, Edgar Kamara isn't looking to be a huge offensive force, averaging 7.1 ppg on 30.0 FG%.
JS' grade: B: He has a good all-around game, but his shooting is killing him right now. He should improve as time progressives, and be a solid player.
4. Juwan Bixby - C - Albacete
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Juwan Bixby 43 31 41.2 56.1 0.0 6.5 1.8 3.0 1.1 1.5 0.6 11.4
Juwan Bixby, Albacete's second pick in the top 4 is currently starting for them at the Center spot. He's looking pretty good right now, averaging 11.4 ppg and 6.5 rpg in 31 minutes. He needs to find a better shot selection, as his 41.2 FG% isn't exactly what one wants in a center right now, but perhaps he's just learning to play against the D of some of the top centers of this league.
JS' grade: B+: As Bixby learns how to play against the big men of the WBA, I expect that he'll grow into his role much better. He should be a solid center in his career.
5. Paul Spagnoli - C - Colorado
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Paul Spagnoli 39 7 41.8 51.4 41.7 1.5 0.3 0.5 0.3 0.3 0.3 3.0
With Sean Ashman starting at C, and Jim Peyton and Harvey Dwyer also avaliable as backups, Paul Spagnoli isn't receiving as much playing time as he probably would like. He is averaging 1.5 rpg and 3.0 ppg in the 7 minutes he plays per game, but it's hard to see what kind of an impact he's actually making with that kind of playing time.
JS' grade: B : it'll be interesting to see what Spagnoli's role will be in the future, as he's certainly capable of being a starter on some teams, but Colorado still has Ashman and Dwyer at center, who are both 23 years old.
6. Maury Coleman - SG - Roswell
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Maury Coleman 44 28 42.2 74.1 46.3 4.4 2.0 1.8 0.8 1.4 1.3 12.1
Coleman, who is currently starting at SG for Roswell was expected to be one of the big scorers of the draft. And while he is making an impact with his 46.3 3P%, I'm sure Roswell would like to see him work a little harder on his close to mid-range shots (he's 40.2% at 2-pointers), if the team is going to continue their playoff push as they are right now.
JS' grade: C+: If Coleman becomes more of the scorer that he was hoped to be (even though 12.2 ppg isn't that bad), I'll probably look at him better, but besides the 4.4 rpg he's getting, he's doesn't do a whole lot else.
7. Anothy Curtis - PF - Oregon
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Anthony Curtis 43 15 38.5 75.9 24.4 3.0 0.7 0.3 0.5 0.9 0.5 6.9
Anothy Curtis is currently backing up Tony Dimateo at the SF spot. In the 15 mpg he is averaging, he's getting a solid 6.9 points and 3.0 rebounds. Like most other rookies, he could work a bit on his shot selection, but the main thing is, this guy doesn't seem to mind playing out of his natural position, PF, and his team is obviously winning.
JS' grade: B-: Curtis looks pretty good, but it'll be interesting to see how his role plays out in the future, as Oregon does have strength at its depth at PF, as well as at other positions.
8. Vance Clopp - C - Nebraska
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Vance Clopp 44 31 40.7 55.0 25.0 7.0 2.5 1.8 1.6 1.8 0.9 10.1
Vance Clopp, starting is C for Nebraska, is leading the rookies in rebounds per game with 7.0. He's also scoring 10.1 ppg and is getting 1.6 bpg. His main weakness is his FT%, so if other teams catch on, he might be the next Shaq. Okay, maybe his FT shooting isn't that unreliable.
JS' grade: B: Vance Clopp is doing a good enough job on the Nebraska team to help contribute with the Williams and Taylor squad. Of course, if Brandon decides to hype this guy as a Rookie of the Year candidate, I might have to lower his rating a bit.
9. Harry Kramer - PF/C - Omaha
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Harry Kramer 35 14 29.4 85.4 20.0 2.5 1.5 1.3 0.6 0.5 1.0 4.2
Harry Kramer currently appears to be getting backup minutes at the PF and C spots for Omaha. He's not making an immediate impression right now, especially when he's shooting a dismal 29.4% from the field, but he is managing to get 4.2 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 14 minutes.
JS' grade: B-: I like Harry Kramer, all right, but he's not making an immediate impact so far this year, and he tends to get injured every now and then.
10. Maurice Evers - SG/SF - Carolina
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Maurice Evers 38 7 29.3 72.2 18.2 0.9 0.5 0.5 0.1 0.4 0.3 2.6
Maurice Evers hasn't been making much of an impression so far in this league. He's been averaging 2.6 ppg in 7 minutes, but on a not so impressive 29.3 FG%.
JS' grade: D+: I think Maurice Evers is supposed to be a scorer, like Maury Coleman, but he doesn't shoot as well as Coleman does, and he has a habit to get injured. With the tragedy that happened to Kevon Duke, I wonder if Evers will be getting more playing time, but I'd like to see if he really was worth the #10 pick.
11. Reuben Sax - C - London
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Reuben Sax 29 13 32.6 86.1 15.8 3.9 0.6 1.2 0.7 0.8 0.3 4.3
Reuben Sax isn't exactly being an impact player right now - just getting backup minutes behind star Horace Colbert. He is averaging 4.3 ppg and 3.9 rpg in the 13 minutes he does play, which isn't bad, but he's not a good shooting for his position (32.6%).
JS' grade: C+: If Sax can improve his shooting, he'll be a decent Center in this league. Of course with Colbert around to tutor him, he should be a good backup for London in the next couple seasons.
12. Joe Cochran - C - Montana
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Joe Cochran 18 8 36.2 85.0 42.9 2.8 0.3 1.1 0.4 0.6 0.4 3.0
Joe Cochran isn't getting too many minutes on Montana due to the presence of Pat Stephenson and backup Michael Huryta. In the few minutes he has been player, he had grabbed a solid 2.8 boards per game in 8 minutes.
JS' grade: C : It's not that Cochran's is a bad player. He's just not doing anything for Montana right now. I suppose that he'll be working on his skills to become a solid backup for Montana in the future as long as Espo doesn't trade him away (but why would he trade a Harlem alum?)
13. Ryan Cuevas - PG/SG - Andorra
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Ryan Cuevas 40 24 25.0 60.8 0.0 3.7 4.0 1.9 0.5 1.1 1.7 5.2
Ryan Cuevas was another questionable pick in the draft, as there were better players left in the draft besides him, but unfortuantely, they were mainly PFs and Cs. Right now Cuevas is starting at PG, where he isn't doing too bad, if you don't count his awful shooting (25.0 FG%, 5.2 ppg): he is avering 3.7 rpg and 4.0 apg in 24 minutes, as well as 1.7 spg.
JS' grade: C : Cuevas needs to improve his game to help out his Andorra team. It would be nice to see him improve his shooting and passing games, weaknesses his team has overall, but he doesn't really seem to be as bad as one would think.
14. Scott Currie - SG - Omaha
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Scott Currie 29 13 26.2 80.4 0.0 3.0 1.5 0.4 0.4 0.1 0.7 3.3
Legendary for his ability to get 10+ rebounds per game in college as SG, Currie isn't doing so bad at that end of his game, getting 3.0 rpg in 13 minutes, even though he could do better, backing up for Omaha. Other than that, he game seems to be a little sketchy, as he's averaging 3.3 ppg, but on 26.2% shooting.
JS' grade: C : Scott Currie has potential, but he's not a great shooter at all. I'd like to see him improve his offensive game before I think more highly of him.
15. John Devine - C - Gabon
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
John Devine 44 24 36.0 62.2 34.3 6.0 1.4 2.2 1.2 0.9 1.2 7.7
Starting for Gabon, C, John Devine isn't exactly a giant right now, but Gabon is likely hoping he'll play like one as time progresses. Averaging 7.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg in 24 minutes, he is matching up to most of the other centers in the draft, and even though his FG% isn't exactly great at 36.0%, it's better than a lot of other rookies'.
JS' grade: B-: Being one of the younger of the rookie class at 21 years, I expect this guy to have a nice future ahead of him. Of course, he's not doing bad at all right now, but like most rookies, they're going to be great right away.
16. Tyriq Lang - C - New York
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Tyriq Lang 37 24 34.2 67.5 25.0 5.4 2.2 3.0 2.0 1.3 1.3 7.5
Starting for the New York Firestorm at C is Tyriq Lang. Since New York doesn't have too much going for them right now, people want to see if Tyriq Lang will give New York any future. Right now it's uncertain. He is averaging 7.5 ppg and 5.4 rpg in 24 minutes, as well as 2.0 blocks, but he'd be liked more if he can work on his shot selection (34.2 FG% isn't that great).
JS' grade: B-: The kid is 21, so I expect him to develop in more overall player as he gets older. Anyways, he doesn't look bad defensively and at rebounding, he just needs to add an offensive game to the package.
17. Alexei Vasilev - PF/C - Oregon

Aleksei Vasilev 43 19 27.9 87.2 29.5 4.6 1.0 1.2 0.5 0.8 1.0 6.5
Apparently everybody in this draft has had problems with FG%, and Aleksei Vasilev is no exception. But put his 27.9 FG%, Vasilev is still able to put 6.5 ppg on the board (whether from free throws or lucky shots), and get 4.6 rpg in 19 minutes.
JS' grade: C : He's lucky to play behind Gonzo, as maybe he can pick on some shooting tips from him. Well, Vasilev does look like he can be pretty good in this league, but I don't really think he's contributing at all to Oregon's hot start so far this year.
18. Abdiel Gordon - PF - Capetown
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Abdiel Gordon 43 15 24.7 61.7 28.6 3.7 2.1 0.7 0.9 0.8 0.8 5.5
Backing-up behind Oman Fatafehi, Abdiel Gordon is trying to show his worth. He's averaging 3.7 rpg, and 2.1 apg in 15 minutes, but he's FG% is awfully low at 24.7.
JS' grade: B-: I like Abdiel Gordon, he has a good all-around game for a PF, but the thing that kills me about him is that he doesn't have great shooting skills, and even though he goes to the free-throw line a lot, I'd expect him to shoot a little better than 61.7% from it.
19. Trenton Meehan - C - Drafted by London - Traded to New York
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Trenton Meehan 29 15 42.0 32.1 27.3 3.3 1.2 1.7 1.0 1.1 0.3 4.5
Trenton Meehan, splitting time between London and New York this year, has done pretty well at his position, averaging 4.5 ppg, and 3.3 rpg in 15 minutes.
JS' grade: C+: Trenton Meehan has pretty good stats so far, but he really hasn't helped the struggling New York franchise at all this year, as they're continuing they're prideful streak of losing. I'll be seeing how Meehan keeps doing in the future, but I'm sure that Tyriq Lang will continue to be the go-to guy for the team in the future.

Reed Moses, a backup C for Washington is quietly averaging 2.7 ppg and 2.2 rpg in 10 minutes behind Boom-Boom Casey.
JS' grade: C+: I know that Reed Moses was a great pickup this late in the draft, but he isn't doing much so far this season. Well, he is playing behind the legendary Boom-Boom Casey, so if Reed Moses' role increases over the next few seasons, excpect me to raise my grade on him pretty quickly.

Ray Estrada 38 9 40.9 69.2 23.1 2.0 1.1 0.3 0.1 0.3 0.3 2.7
Ray Estrada, a backup PG for Colorado is showing some promise as he's averaged 2.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, and 1.1 apg in the 9 minutes he's been averaging so far this year.
JS' grade: C+: You know I love Ray Estrada, heck he has potential to rebound as well as most forwards do, but I can't gage Estrada with the few minutes he's average so far, even though it appears that he is being played more now by his coach. Being a season to see that you can't win every game like you do when your in Paris U., I expect Estrada to show good leadership at the point as he matures.

JS' grade: D-: You know I've been giving most of these grades based on stats, but according to my scouting report, he should be a good rebounding and shot blocker, but really not much of a scorer or anything else. Well, he is behind Clarence Collins and George Lush on the depth chart, two solid players in their own right, (as well as Walter Callaway, who hasn't seen any playing time either). Josiah Gillies 39 16 30.8 69.2 27.8 2.8 2.4 0.7 0.5 0.8 0.7 5.4
Josiah Gillies is getting some decent minutes for Capetown, with 16 per game, in which he is averaging 4.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, and 2.4 apg.
JS' grade: C : Gillies is another one of those rookies who doesn't have that great of a FG%, but he is getting a decent share of rebounds and assists to make up for that weakness. He's lucky to have star player Obafemui Mabruke playing in front of him, and possibly give him some tips on how to improve his game.
24. Hank Pynn - PG - Boston
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Hank Pynn 45 13 36.8 46.4 3.4 2.0 2.9 0.5 0.3 0.4 0.7 1.9
Hank Pynn is currently backing-up Danny Haigne at the point. He's averaging 13 minutes per game, in which he's getting 2.9 apg, 2.0 rpg, and 1.9 ppg.
JS' grade: C+. Hank Pynn isn't what you'd call the PG of the future for Boston. He isn't going to be a scorer, and he might be a year or two away from being a solid passer, but the team seems to do pretty well with him running the show (1.06 scoring ratio), and we'll see what happens as time progresses.
25. Norm Axelrod - SF - Rochester
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Norm Axelrod 35 7 24.7 72.7 21.4 1.8 1.3 0.7 0.4 0.5 0.2 2.5
Norm Axelrod, a backup SF for Rochester, has been averaging 1.8 rpg and 2.5 ppg in 7 minutes.
JS' grade: C : Norm Axelrod doesn't look that great, but neither does anybody else on Rochester. Okay, I was joking (only to some extent). Axelrod does look like he can be a good rebounder in this league, and I see that he can pass the ball as well. As about shooting, I think I've already criticized 90% of the rookies so far on that.
26. Ezequiel Grunspan - PF - Andorra
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Ezequiel Grunsp 18 8 22.0 62.5 0.0 2.2 0.8 0.7 0.6 0.3 0.5 1.8
Tired of Ezequiel's awful shooting, and perhaps everything else in his life at the time, Andorra's coach decided one day that he'd bench his backup PF in favor of C Oshodi Bombata, and he has barely played since. But in the 8 minutes per game he has averaged, he has gotten 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 points, as well as 0.6 blocks.
JS' grade: C : I really think that if Ezequiel Grunspan learns how to shoot, he'll have a good career, but it don't see that happening for awhile. At least he's young at 21 years, but in the meantime, he'll be watching action off of the bench.
27. Derek Witt - Drafted by California - Now a Free Agent
Derek Witt is a free agent who hasn't played at all this season.
JS' grade: D+: Derek Witt isn't that bad. My scouting report says he's good at rebounds and blocking shots, and doesn't foul that often. Oh yeah, but he shoots worse than most of the guys I said suck at shooting so far in this report, so take your risk.
28. Ruben Schmidt - Drafted by Budapest - Signed by Baltimore
G MIN FG% FT% 3P% REB A PF BLK TO STL PTS
Ruben Schmidt 4 5 25.0 100.0 0.0 0.3 1.3 0.3 0.0 0.8 1.0 2.0
JS' grade: D+: Ruben Schmidt hasn't really played at all, so it's hard to judge him as of right now, but my scouting report says that he's not a great shooter, and he needs work on his passing skills as well. I suppose that it's a good thing that Baltimore has Bailey Wood and Anson Valente available to play in front of him.
Well, that's basically a summary of all of the first round picks. Yes, there is a whole second round, but I really don't have time to do all of those players as well. Basically, in the second round, you can either end up a total disaster and never be heard of again, lead a solid, but quiet career, or in a few rare cases follow the way of Dave Williams and show everybody that you really were capable of being a superstar. Perhaps we'll see a few of each of those from this rookie class, maybe not, but that's all I, Joe Spencer, have to say for now.

What is Right in Fury Land?
By: Corey Daubanton
Management wants you to think their team is so "cold" that they belong in Finland, but Joe Spencer of GSPN news disagrees, noting that the Fury are still only 2 games out of the playoffs in a more competitive Eastern Conference, even though they are 18-26 as of Day 48 (and on a 5 game losing streak).
Hot Stuff:
Starting PG, Yuri Vilansy is only 21 years old, and is among the league's top passers with 11.1 apg so far this season. Yes, he gets injured too often, but that can always improve over the years through training. His 3.5 fouls a game isn't worth bragging about, so tell him to stop trying to get rebounds, since he's lucky if he average 2 a game. Once he improves on his shooting (he only gets 5.6 ppg and 32.6 FG% in 33 minutes) and his fouling, he'll likely be considered among the elite in guards in this league. I think if he wasn't injured right now, Birmingham would probably have been able to pick up a couple wins, including their 102-98 loss to Baltimore on Day 47, and losing to Boston by 5 points (93-88) at home on Day 40, after beating team them the previous night at home by 18 (117-99) before he got hurt.
Ramiro Watts is one of the hot centers in this league at age 25. He is already a top scorer for Birmingham with his 18.6 ppg and 56.3 FG%, and he's a pretty good rebounder with 7.6 boards per game. And under year 2 of a 5 year contract worth $2 million a year, he's not exactly taking up valuable cap space.
The Fury actually have a good offensive team - averaging 104.0 ppg and 48.6%. The only problem is the defense gives up 103.8 ppg, and the team is notorious for its foul problems, as mentioned later in the article.
What Really is Wrong in Fury Land?
The Fury average 15.3 free throw attempts, which is worst in the league. They need a player who can drive into the basket and draw fouls, and Nike Johnson doesn't count, even though he does lead the team with 2.7 free throw attempts per game. If the team fails at trying to get players in foul trouble, then the other team's D can just play as aggressively as it wants, without worrying about losing a player.
The 26.6 fouls per game the Fury is averaging is not part of a conspiracy to make Birmingham look bad. Checking the ratings shows that Yuri Vilansy is an E+ in fouls, Michael Kutak: D+, Nike Johnson: F, and a handful of guys in the C ratings. Only Craig King and Vladimir Prokhorol are rated B-, but they aren't good enough overall to get any more than just a few minutes a game.
Is there any hope?
Well, Birmingham does have their first round pick and Nebraska's first round pick in the Season 10 rookie draft. Even though the picks will probably be in the middle and end of the round, they should see if they can draft anybody would can possibly replace one of the lesser players who get fouls constantly (ie: Bomber Bartkowski), and perhaps actually get the team to the foul line. And anyways, "Big E." isn't one of the hated owners of the league, so if he does wins the Citzenship Award, he should see if one of his players would like to go to defensive camp to learn how to play "D" and reduce fouls.

Eugene LaMaitre violated team rules and has been suspended by SLC for four games. Rumor has it that he got drunk and spray painted the sidewalk around the Mormon Temple but team officials are not commenting on what the specific infraction was.
Brooklyn's Jay Dickenson passed a Kidney stone after today's gutsy victory over Boston. he should miss the next four games.
Sacramento has had their share of challenges this year. They started the season hot but have become very cold. To make matters worse their young talented big man Matthew Pitcher was today suspended by the league for violating the leagues drug policy. The league has refused to discuss the specifics of the case but he has been suspended fof the remainder of the season. According to league rules this means it is either his second infraction and the league suspended the penalty for the first or that he was also caught distributing some for of illegal substence.

"Plummer Announces Retirement and Replacement"
by George W. Kerry
The night before Washington's final home game of their longest homestand ever, owner/gm/coach Sam Plummer announced that he is selling the team and is retiring from the WBA effective at the end of the season. Plummer knew heading into this season that it would be his last, but didn't want to make it official until the last stretch of the season. "This is a sad day for me. This has been my life for the last 9 years, and it's coming to an end. It's time to move on and start a new chapter in my life as I explore different career opportunties." The financial terms of the sale were not disclosed, but it is believed to be the richest sale in the history of the WBA.
To much surprise, Plummer revealed that he had been secretly interviewing candidates to take over his job. "I contacted 5 or 6 guys from other leagues. After interviewing them, I came across a man who is perfect for this job. He is one that will carry on the tradition and history of the Washington Monuments." The new man in charge at the end of the season will be Tim Richards who has a great history in other basketball leagues. Tim felt it was time to move up to the top league. Richards was not at the press conference and unavailable for comment. Plummer added later, "One reason why it was a little easier for me to step down was because I found a great replacement in Tim. I wanted to make sure that this organization was being handed over to someone who carries the same philosophies as me."
Boom-Boom Casey was at the press conference. He was visibly disappointed with the news, but supported Plummer's decision. There is some speculation that Casey might want to leave in free agency after his contract expires next season, but Casey was quick to respond. "I love this team. I've been here for 6 years and won a championship here. I want to come back, but that ultimately comes down to management. We've been discussing an extension for a few years now, but still haven't agreed to anything. I want to finish my career in Washington. I want my last long-term contract here." When asked if he had met Richards yet, Boom-Boom replied "No, not yet. I'm anxious to see what this guy's about. I trust Sam to make the right choice though." When asked if Plummer's retirement will add motivation for a championship run this year, Boom-Boom replied "Oh definitely. We want Sam to go out on top. I can't think of a better way to end his career. We've been playing well before this announcement, but hopefully we can play even better. We've never been a 1 seed or had the best record in the league, but we can do that if we continue to play well."
Plummer also revealed that Richards will start working with the organization immediately, but reitterated that Richards won't officially take over until season's end. Plummer mentioned his plans to be a consultant during Richards first season in the WBA. Many around the league feel that Plummer will still be the ones calling the shots for the draft and free agency at the end of the season.

Walking the Plank 2
The Sequel
Jack Sparrowe
Lets look at the comments made by the management from across the
As they say. First off the article was not by Baltimore management but
Field reporter Jack Sparrowe .
Now lets get to the meat and potatoes or should I say fish and chips.
Again we are talking about the WBA not the NBA and I never said they cant shoot. I said my idea of a great pg. was My idea of a pg. is someone who runs the offense and not turnover the ball and get steals. Where does that say they cant shoot?
Second off you are trying to say that a pg. that can shoot is more important than pg. that assists. I have never seen any one draft a rookie pg. that fg% is better than his assist and to. You know and everyone else knows when you look for a pg. to draft the first things we look for are his passing rating, to rating and off ability if he happens to be able to put the ball in the so called hole as you say that is an added luxury.
If you want to prove me wrong I dare you to draft a pg. that is has those qualities (better fg than passing and to and off ab). And I guarantee your picked will be called horrible and laughed at.
Again if you ask any of you what your idea what a pg. is? Everybody all a pg. is your coach on the floor or you can even compare him to qb all a qb is asked to do is move the team to throw td and to hand off the ball to the hb to score if you do get a qb to score again that is an added luxury not requirement.
For you to say that you look at someone fg% first thing you look and if they are shooting under 35% you delete them and they shouldn't be all star is silly. You should be looking for what they are supposed to do in that position
If you have a Center that grabs 18.1 rebounds a game and 7.5 blocks a game you and are not going to vote him an all star because he is shooting under 35%, get real all you are doing is defend the fact that you know your pg. is wimp and Anson is a stud.
For Walking the Plank this Jack Sparrowe.

Is Texas waking up?
And article by Clark Lane
After a bad start of the season Texas seams to awake, slowly. They have started to play a better basketball. After a difficult start and a difficult integration of newly acquired Heiko Van Brandt Texas is starting to win consistently. They have won 7 of their last 11 games and they are already 6th seeded in the West Conference even if they are only 2 games between Texas and the 9th seeded.
Everything seems to click together. Jay Vasquez has been putting, during the last 11 games, 20 points per game shooting 42% from the floor, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and a mind blowing 4.9 blocks per game. If you add Heiko's 25 points, 10 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.4 blocks it brings you one of the hottest couples in all of WBA Land.
All of this added together with the addition of some nice role players seems to be paying for Texas this season. Al Lee is the more prominent example Texas has. A player not liked during FA is actually putting some huge numbers during the recent Texas outburst. He has posted an average, during the last 11 games, of 17.5 points per game, 6.45 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
If we add the contributions of players like Bernie Armstrong, Peter Langstraat, Ed Bryant and Charlie Meyers you get some of the hottest plays down the last week.
The spark is rising in the heart of every Texas fan as the team starts to show some of the Magic they had during the last seasons that allowed the team to play some of the best basketball seen around Texas land
Even if they don't seem able to go anywhere during the playoffs they hope to keep the trend they have had during the last 3 seasons and to try to go to the second round of the playoffs. But this season it could be harder than before. With the team playing without home court advantage, and meeting more likely Oregon or Nebraska during the first round this could finish with a Speedy ticket home.
This still does not seem enough to actually bring a championship home, so during next FA the management hopes to go proactively into the FA and bring at least 1 impact player to Texas so they can get into the next level. Talks about a PF have been very widely followed, but the lack of really good Power Forwards during next FA could push Texas towards other positions.
That's all folks!

And article by Clark Lane
Thoughts about the Andorra Highlanders.
During the preseason there has been much talk about them. They paid 11 m$ for 7 years to keep their star Mark Miller. Was that enough to push the team over the slump it has been in for years? First we are going to take a small overlook on the team. They have had Season 5 pick 1, Season 6 pick 2, Season 7 pick 4 to put a team up on the ground, and they haven't arrived. Why? Well, the picks they got are not bad ones. They have oriented the picks towards the frontcourt with Devonta Corrigan, Mark Miller and John Van Horne but they seem quite far away from success. And their problems are in the backcourt.
Trading Alvin Simpson for Oshodi Bombata is not as great a move as it could look like. Even if Bombata is young, he is not a good center. He will not be even close to Van Horne. His lack of rebounding and aggressive play to go to the line will be pretty bad for the team. But he is not the bad news; he is just not as good as you would hope. The bad news are Nikos Atirides, Ryan Cuevas and Tristen Collins. They have 3 things in common. They shoot a lot. They shoot badly. And they are not even that good as passers. If you put this 3 qualities, to call them something, together you get, arguably, the worse 3 players you can put on the position. They could sink the Titanic all by themselves.
Their nice surprise is Roger Mayer. He is not the best player ever, but he is a much better Point Guard than all of the others on the team, even if he can play only about 20 minutes.
Now the team lineup as I would put it.
Point Guard:
Roger Mayer: He may only play for 20/24 minutes, but he is by far the best point guard on the team roster.
Ryan Cuevas: I am putting here as a lesser evil. He is good as an all-round player but for his shooting. If he improves there he will be great.
Shooting Guard:
Zachariah Salera: He may not be too active, but he shoots well and this team needs desperately some sharp shooters.
Tristen Collins: Another player that needs to improve his shooting. He is nice all-around the board so that helps cover for his problems. But on a team like this one his shooting is worse than it would be on another teams.
Small Forward:
Devonta Corrigan: The soul of the team. He scores and rebounds, but he does both of them very wisely!
Mike Sewell: Nice veteran player. He can help here to give quality minutes.
Power Forward:
Mark Miller: One of the best Power Forwards in the league. He is a bit overpaid, but that is the price to keep him.
Devonta Corrigan: The only player that can help here. With Mike Sewell on the SF spot this is the wisest thing to do.
Center:
John Van Horne: He is having an off-season, but don't let that fool you. He is a very solid Center.
Oshodi Bombata: He is not a bad center, but he will not be able to hold off all the good centers that are around the league.
Marques Feldman: With some training he could be a nice backup center. He need to improve but he is a nice
project.
The next FA is going to be a funny one for this team. They don't have a lot of cap, and they have to think about resigning Van Horne (people thinks they are not going too, I say Bombata is nowhere near as good as Van Horne) and to get a couple of cheap Guards. Because they need someone who can dish the ball, and why not, put a few points in.
The funny part is that in the Weak West, with you a couple of cheap players they could actually fight for a playoff spot. But till they get them, they are going to keep sinking.
Just to finish. Keep the core and send away the whole lot of crapshooters you have. There are 4 players shooting D+ or worse. Even if in the game it is really nice to have people that rebounds and do fancy things, at the end, the deal is too put the ball in the hoop. And don't waste your rewards on Atirides, he will never be good enough!! And please, this time use Miami's pick wisely and get a guy that can put the ball in!!
That's all folks!

Walking the Plank
By: Jack Sparrow
The buzz around the league is the Baltimore Pirates not only did they get new gear and name but they are playing incredible uptempo ball, that has them in third place in the Mid-Atlantic. When you look at this team you kinda wonder how they are doing it they have had some major upsets. So I decided to take a look at their team and see if it is for real or is it just a great game of three card monty.
Pg
Anson Valente is the real deal, there is no 2nd year jinx. This pg just loves to deliver the rock. He is one of top pg in the league for assists at a mind blowing 10.9 pg and is also in the top for rebounding PG at 5.1 pg and is avg
7.8 ppg and 2.3 spg. Johnny Tatum says his court vision is just unbelivable. I thought playing with Stub was amazing but what this kid can do with the ball is on par with Magic or J-Kidd!! Bailey Wood is the backup PG. Much is not expected out of this rookie just learn as much as you can from Anson and give him a rest when it is needed. Wood is avg 1.6 apg and 3.0 ppg in just 11 min of play. Ruben Schmidt an undrafted rookie has only played in four ganes this year and has avg 1.3 apg and 2.0 ppg.
SG
Here is where the major excitment is coming from. Johnny Tatum in his first year at Sg is leading the team in scoring with 19.2 ppg.He is second in steals with 2.2 pg. It also seems the team is looking for JT to be thier leader. Coming off the bench for Tatum is Stevie Vernie who is avg 6.7 ppg. Steve is an outstanding shooter who is just waiting to get his chance .
SF
Odibe King is avg 15.3 ppg 4.6 rpg and 2.5 apg. His play has been pivotal to the success of the Pirates this year.He is the player who gets the dirty work done for the team. Behind him is Mike Ivey the spark off the bench. When Ivey comes in he has the that energy that gets the team flowing. He is scoring 8.9 ppg 4.1 rpg and 1.9
assists. Lance Armstong comes in on mop up duty.
PF
This also is another spot that has a new face. Clarence Collins was giving a new contract in the off season and has taken this spot over. Since getting paid the kwan he is second leading scorer with 17.8 pts 6.0 rpg 2.7 assist and 1.8 bpg. He is also shooting 51.8% from the field. The veteran George Lush comes off the bench. This has been a diffcult year for George first watching his teamates Stub Madison and Joe Jones, who helped Baltimore to the playoffs a couple of seasons ago, waived and then having to go from starter to back up. George being the ultimate pro has taken it in stride. This is the nature of the beast he has been quoted as saying."One year you are the best thing since sliced bread the next you picking splinters out of your rear!!" Lush is also picking up scrub min at the C. Matt Archer and Walter Callaway are reserves who are just asked to watch and learn.
C
The Zane Rivers project looks good when you first peek. Zane has come in snatched down 8.0 rpg scored 12.3 ppg and handed out 2.9 apg. Then you look at the other side of the rock you see the horror of it all 4.0 fpg, 2.8 to. Its enough to make you scream. Don Laine has shown some flashes of what he can be but his 35.7 fg%
is just terrible. In 18 min. a contest he is avg 5.4 rebounds and 5.9 points a game .

A tragic auto accident has ended the promising career of Rondall Reynoso just as his career was starting to take off. Reports say that Reynoso was approaching speeds close to 150 miles per hour in his spruced up 86' Chevy Celebrity Wagon Hatchback. Rumor has it that he was testing out some new additions he had made to it. “He was very proud of that car,” says a source close to the Reynoso family. Now doctors say he is lucky to be alive but with his left leg amputated playing basketball is out of the picture.
Reynoso was a product of Appleby University and was drafted by the Rochester Blaze with the seventeenth overall pick in the Season 5 rookie draft of the WBA. The 6'6'' forward was setting career highs in points per game with 16 a game this season and had been improving steadily since his rookie year. But perhaps Reynoso was best known for being on the cover of the PTS
Digest in a ballerina outfit. This cover propelled Reynoso's popularity to new heights, especially with the female audience. Apparently Reynoso combined a rare mix of masculinity and sensitivity that melted the hearts of young ladies all over the world. As his rookie contract came to a close his popularity in selling tickets and potential as a player garnered him a five year seven million dollar contract from Rochester. His presence on the Rochester club and in the WBA will be missed and although his playing and dancing careers appear to be over Reynoso will forever remind us that real men wear dresses.

Around the WBA
Colorado's Issac Rice tore his ACL today. He will miss the rest of this season and possibly some of next.
Rochester's Jimmy Lewis has received a one game suspension for throwing gatoraid on a camera man during their embarasing loss to Baltimore today.
For a long time the league has known that young millionaires and their fast cars had a lot of potential for problems. Today it really struck home. Rondall Reynoso of Rochester was in a car accident that has ended his career. Early reports are that his left foot has had to be amputated.
Milo Chambers of Miami will miss three games due to a bad dog bite.
Kelvin Davidson has been heavily relied apon this season and the effects are showing. Diavidosn will miss the next several games due to fatigue.
It happened again. This time it was in New York not VI. Two of the leagues worst teams seem to be developing a rivalry. Or at least Bruce Johnson is getting emotional about it. A couple of weeks ago he was suspended for spitting on a New York fan who went to a game in VI now today he gets suspended again for spitting on a fan in New York. Can we say anger management?

Capetwon Report
By: Corey Daubanton
The Capetown Bandits are currently one of the better teams in the WBA, with their 28-15 record, which is second place in the Midwest Division. Who is on this team that makes them good, and are they good enough to give Cancun a run for the division title? Here is a look at their roster as of Day 46.
PG:
Chuck Henderson, the veteran PG, is the starter for the Bandits. He is considered among the league's best in all-time PGs, and so far this season he's averaging 9.5 apg in 36 minutes, which is 5th best in the league. He also a decent scorer, as shown by his 12.6 pph and 48.0 FG%, and his 3.0 spg is a big help for the league's second best defense.
Pat McDaniel, another veteran of the WBA is the backup PG for Capetwon. He is only an average passer, but he still has the ability to put up points for his team, when needed. Whether or not he's effective for his team is questionable, as the Bandits actually are getting outscored at a 1.04 ratio when he's on the court, but maybe that's due to the fact that Capetown has a bunch of good starters who aren't playing when he is. In the 12 minutes per game McDaniel is averaging, he is getting 6.5 points (45.7 FG%), and 1.4 assists.
SG:
Pedro Otis is currently starting at SG for Capetown. He's not a great scorer, but he does have a decent shot selection (45.7 FG%). Besides the points he does get, he's able to also get a few rebounds and assists per game as well. It's questionable what a Spanish guy is doing on Capetown, but the team will take the 9.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists he is getting in the 27 minutes per game he is currently averaging.
Josiah Gillies, a SF, is current backing up Pedro Otis at SG. He is probably not valued for his poor shooting (29.6%), but he's a rookie (taken #23 overall), so until he improves in that statistic, the coach will take the decent rebounds and assists he puts up for his position in the mean time. In the 16 mpg he is currently averaging, Gillies is getting 5.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Gene Allen is probably not the valued player he once was, as now he used more as a bench player ever since Pedro Otis was acquired earlier this season from Rochester. He's able to get his share of points, but besides that, he is really only known for his strong defensive presence, and not anything else. In 35 games, he been getting 9.1 points (48.6 FG%) and 2.5 assists in 26 minutes.
SF:
Obafemi Mabruke is the big-time star on the Capetown Bandits, that is if he's healthy, as he's missed six games so far this year from injuries. He is currently leading his team in points (20.6), and rebounds (9.7), and he's also valued for his 51.0 FG% and the 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals he's also putting up in the 32 minutes per game he is averaging.
Mark Crowley is Mabruke's backup at SF. He's only a subpar shooter/scorer, but he is a good rebounder for his position, and has a decent assist rate as well. In the 15 mpg he is averaging, he is getting 3.3 points (37.6 FG%), 3.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists.
Kelian Fabares is actually a pretty good shooter and shot-blocker, as well as an okay rebounder, but he's not good enough for anything besides a few minutes in emergency play for Capetown. In the 8 games he's only played, he's averaged 3.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks in 13 minutes.
PF:
Oman Fatafehi is the other big player on the Bandits' roster. He has a good shot selection, even though he doesn't too often, and is also valued for the rebounds and defense he contributes to his team.
Abdiel Gordon, the rookie PF was taken #18 overall in the draft, and is currently playing backup behind Fatafehi. He's valued for his ability to get rebounds, and dish a couple assists per game, but management would probably like to see him improve his dismal FG% before he becomes a major force in the league. In the 15 mpg he is averaging, Gordon is getting 5.5 points (24.7 FG%), 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
C:
George Holt is the starting C for Capetown. Being one of the veterans on the team, he is looked upon to help lead his team in tough circumstances. Of course, he's ability to take shots, and get to the foul line is a plus, even if he isn't the best rebounder for his position. In the 43 mpg is averaging, Holt is getting 19.6 points and 5.9 rebounds.
Odell Bell is the the backup C for the Bandits. He isn't hit as many shots as probably is expected, but he's still a good player at being able to draw fouls, and he still gets share of rebounds, even though he'd probably be except to get more boards as he's a center. In the 13 mpg he is averaging, Bell is getting 6.1 ppg (42.2 FG%), and 2.1 rebounds.
Burt Rodriquez rarely plays, as the Bandits already have Holt and Bell at the C spot. According to the ratings, Rodriquez is a pretty good shooter, but he's not a great rebounder at all, even though he does have the ability to get his share of steals. He has played 8 games so far this year, in which he averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8 minutes
Caden Whelan, a second round draft-choice, is just sitting on the bench this year, learning the finer points of the game. He does have the potential to be a good scorer and defender in this league, as he is only 22 years old, but he'll have to settle with no playing time until he is called on by Capetown, or another team to be a bencher.
Overall Capetown does appear to have a solid front court with Mabruke, Fatafehi, and Holt leading the way. Chuck Henderson is also solid PG in this league. The only question marks for me is how well Pedro Otis can play as the starting SG, as he's not been putting up big number so far, and also well well the team's bench can play, especially considering that Mabruke is always capability of twisting an ankle or spraining his knee on short notice. Overall, the team should still competitive in their division, perhaps not as good as Cancun, as the Outlaws seem to have a better bench than the Bandits, but with their two biggest stars (Mabruke and Fatafehi) being only 24 years old, this t

Omaha Report
By: Corey Daubanton
The Omaha Wild are currently among the league's mediocre teams with their 16-24 record, but they are still only a half game away from being tied for the 8th seed in the playoffs if the season would end today. To see if Omaha has the players needed to make a run for the playoffs, let's take a look at their roster as of Day 42.
PG:
Oliver McCarty is the starting PG for the Wild. He's not exactly a great passer, as he's averaging 6.0 apg in 38 minutes so far, but he has a pretty solid all-around game, averaging 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 15.0 points as well.
Johnny Meynard is currently the backup PG for Omaha after being obtained in a recent deal with London. He's nothing special -- just a decent passer and able to get a couple rebounds now and then. In the 23 games he has played, he's averaged 4.7 points and 1.7 assists in 12 minutes.
Pepe Garcia, a PG/SG, hasn't played at all this season. According to the ratings, he should be a decent passer, but just a mediocre shooter, and doesn't really have the talent to provide a team with anything besides garbage minutes. He is 22, so maybe he'll develop into a decent backup in a few years.
SG:
Brian Collins is now the starting SG for Omaha, replacing the role previously assigned to Peter Parker before he was traded. He has the ability to put nearly 15 ppg up regularly, and he's a decent passer and rebounder as well. So far he has been averaging 14.3 points on 46.8 FG%, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the 29 minutes per game he has been averaging.
Branko Filipovic is a pretty good scorer for Omaha as a backup SG and SF. He is the best three-point shooter on the team, and perhaps one of the best in the league, as his 48.0 3P% is currently leading the league. However, he's not as great closer to the basket, as his overall FG% is 40.7%. In the 27 mpg he is averaging, he is getting 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Scott Currie, a rookie SG, was noticed in college mainly for his top-notch rebounding skills for his position. While he hasn't been getting too many minutes as of recently, he has averaged 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 3.7 points in 14 minutes during the 25 games he has played. His FG% is pretty low at 26.7%, so he'll need to work on that over the next few seasons.
SF:
Ellis Law is the main scoring weapon on Omaha, as he leads the team with 15.8 ppg (on 48.9 FG%) in 26 minutes. He's also a decent rebound with 4.9 rpg, and manages to block 1.7 shots per game as well.
Frank Rose is the backup SF for the Wild. The only thing he really does is put up around 10 ppg, as he is doing right now in 26 minutes. Although he doesn't do much else, he's effective, as shown by his 54.7 FG%
Luo-Kung Liu is a 22 year old reserve SF. He's not really a scorer at all, but he is pretty decent at rebounding and passing for his position. He's only played 8 games so far in which he has average 2.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 10 minutes.
PF:
Donavan Jones appears to be the starting PF for Omaha, even though he is getting plenty of minutes at C as well. He is probably one of the better all-around players in the league, as he has the ability to score, rebound, block shots, as well as get some assists. In 31 mpg, he has been averaging 10.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 4.9 assists. He does seem to play a little aggressively, as shown by his 3.8 fouls per game, but he's still a good player for this team.
Roy Houle is the backup PF for the Wild. He likes to take his shots, but he doesn't have a great percentage (33.8 FG%). At least he has the ability to get to the free throw line as well to make up. Besides that, he's a pretty good rebounder, although his fouls seem to get him into trouble occasionally. In the 14 mpg he is averaging, he is getting 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.1 fouls.
Harry Kramer is a PF/C who was drafted by Omaha. He's getting some play off of the bench so far this year, but he probably needs a season or two to develop his game so he can compete against the big men of this league. In 15 mpg he has been getting 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.0 steals.
C:
Gerhold Verholm is the starting C for Omaha, although he is splitting his time at PF as well. He's not a good rebound for his position, but he is a decent scoring, and is also able to get some steals and assists in his playing time. He also tends to foul a little more than the coach probably would like, but he's still a pretty good player overall. In the 26 mpg he has been average, he has 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 4.0 fouls.
Mike Bennett is a backup who gets some minutes now and then at the C position. He's just a decent rebounder, but he has the ability to score a few points per game, as well as get his share of blocks and steals. He's been averaging 7.4 points (on 48.9% shooting), 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.7 steals in 20 minutes in the 28 games he has played so far.
Overall, the Wild doesn't look to be that bad of a team. The have some good players in Oliver McCarty and Donavan Jones. They don't really have a big-name superstar on their team, and they might not have the best backup players and the guard spots and small forward, but this team probably will be capable of making a run at or just below .500 if everything goes their way, and perhaps a low seed in the playoffs.
